In the era before the great edit of material from this board, I put forward a similar poll, but that now seems to have occurred ages ago. So time for an update. The question is straightforward; What is your favourite movie without a gun or a death in it? You can name more than one, and discussion is always welcome. I'm curious about what people come up with.

Wow, I never realized how difficult it was to think of a movie without either of these things in it! I'll have to think this over.

This is harder than it should be. “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”?

Lost in Translation came immediately to mind.

Richard Linklater's best stuff -- Dazed & Confused, the Before movies, Everybody Wants Some ... (though not Boyhood, which I think has a scene with a gun ...)

Almost said It Happened One Night which doesn't have a gun, but does have someone pretending to have gun, so I'll eliminate it on principal.

That's off the top of my head.

Edit: Cut one suggestion because it almost certainly had a death I initially forgot about it.

Great idea. First ones that came to mind really quickly:

The Idiots (Lars Von Trier)
The Before Trilogy (Richard Linklater)

I'll come back with more.

In Dazed & Confused they get a gun pulled on them at the liquor store.

If we are talking favorites, then Slap Shot is on the list.

Step Brothers

Her
Spotlight
The Big Short
Moneyball

...takes some thought

I'm going to go with my two favourite movies of the 21st century: I Don't Want to Sleep Alone and Still Life. English language movies are harder but as a poster noted above teen comedies often fit the bill. Can't think of any teen comedies so I will go with Good Will Hunting....I think.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

At least in the books, the children were shown to still be alive at the end.

Mine too... but I disqualified it because of the farmer with the gun
