Senators vs. Sharks, March 26, 1999. I was behind the visiting net, halfway up the upper bowl of the Palladium-Corel-Scotiabank-Terwilliger-Hutz-McClure-Centre-Place

The game started with over eight minutes of exciting, end-to-end, firewagon hockey before the first whistle. The exciting pace continued throughout the game. It was scoreless midway through the third period, when the Sharks capitalized on a 2-on-1 to get on the board first.

The Sens were getting spectacular chances in the latter half of the third period, but couldn't beat Vernon. Finally, with less then a minute remaining, a pinching Redden found himself all alone at the top of the slot, and fired a laser of a wrist shot over Vernon's shoulder to tie the game. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Game 3 of the 1996 World Cup Final if you're talking about games you've witnessed in person. The wrong guys won :)sarcasm:) but it was an amazing game to see, played at the highest level. If you're including TV games, then I'm not sure what I'd say.

A couple run through my head. I'm kind of young so more recent games from this decade come to my mind.

Game 7 Avs vs Devils in 2001.

Game 6 Flyers vs Lighting. Just amazing hearing that crowed after Primeau scored.

And since I'm a huge Cap fan

Game 2 Caps vs Pens. AO is my favorite player so yeah. I went nuts when he would score.

Game One, 1983 Stanley Cup Finals

NYI 2
Edmonton 0

Best played game I've ever witnessed. Greatest offensive machine coming in waves at Billy Smith for seemingly 50 minutes. The ever-opportunistic Isles, even sans a flu-ridden Mike Bossy, manage to sneak one in and hold on for dear life to that lead for 59 minutes, until they get an open netter.

Set the stage for an unanticipated four game sweep, and NYI's fourth straight Cup.

Edit: If by "witnessed," you mean watched in person, then it's Game Seven, SCF, 1994.

Nov. 11, 2008, Pittsburgh at Detroit. Cup finals rematch, my first time seeing Crosby play live.

Crosby scores about 4 minutes in, so I'm already happy. Detroit gets up 5-2 in the third. Pittsburgh scores twice int he last 3 minutes to tie it at 6, and then scores 2 minutes into OT for the win. Best live game I will probably ever see.

I don't know about the best quality game I've been to, but the most memorable one was game 5 of the finals last year. Detroit won 5-0. It was my first time back at JLA since I was a about 9 years old.

Me and my brother (who is a Pens fan) showed up very early for all the events taking place outside the arena before the game. I ended up helping introduce the game on Hockey Night in Canada. Unforgettable. Me and my brother were also interviewed by the Detroit Free Press about our "sibling rivalry" and it was in the paper the next day.

Minnesota-Vancouver, Game 7 in 2003.

To set things up: I hated the Canucks with every fibre of my being at that point (and I still don't like them, but anyway...). The ever-likebale posse of Bertuzzi, Linden, Crawford, and Burke, and an fanbase that, despite the fact their team hadn't won a playoff series in close to a decade, carried themselves with astonishing arrogance. To many, it was just a foregone conclusion that Vancouver was finals-bound this particular spring.

Things almost went off the rails in the first round as the Canucks fell behind the Blues 3-1 in games. But Vancouver would be given a reprieve when the hard-luck Blues were struck with a flu epidemic in addition to injuries. The Canucks took the next three against the weakened St. Louis club and were off to round two. A series of upsets that took both Detroit and Colorado down in round one looked to have paved the way for Vancouver to fulfill their destiny of reaching the finals.

A pair of OT wins helped Vancouver to a 3-1 series lead over the Wild, who were surely out of miracles after overcoming a similar deficit against the Avalanche in the previous round. Bertuzzi was quite certain of this, and made sure to remind the Wild faithful not to bother purchasing tickets to a potential Game 6.

It was a good thing those fans didn't heed Bert's advice, or they'd have missed the excellent 5-1 beatdown the Wild laid on the Canucks in said game. This of course coming on the heels of the 7-2 throttling that the reinvigorated Minnesota team gave Vancouver in Game 5. Things looked to have slipped away for the Cancuks...

...But they settled things down in the deciding Game 7, built a 2-0 lead late in the second period, and looked to have dodged a bullet. Once more, the Wild looked done for, but there was no reason to throw in the towel at that point. A fortuitous goal late in the second cut the lead in half, and the determined Wild equalled in the third period. Now sensing panic on the part of the Canucks, Minnesota went for the kill and would not be denied, moving ahead 3-2 shortly after.

With the clock ticking on Vancouver's season, Todd Bertuzzi decides it's time to run over Dwayne Roloson for reasons only he could be sure of. The easy penalty call gives Bertuzzi a prime seat to watch the Wild bang home a 4-2 insurance goal, and send him and the rest of the Canucks to the golf course.

Ahhh memories...:)

Game Two of the Canada/Russia final in the 1987 Canada Cup quite possibly the most purely enertaining game ever

Game Three of the Canada/Russia series in 1987. Gretz to Mario, Canada's comeback, etc.

The semi final between Canada/Russia in overtime in the 1984 Canada Cup

Game Three of the 1996 World Cup even if the US did win

Game Six of the Pens/Caps series in 2009 from a purely neutral point of view that would have been epic (although I was rooting for the Pens)

Game Seven of the 2009 Cup final. Didn't pick up until the 3rd but man, oh man, it was the most nailbiting finish in Cup history

Game Seven between the Flyers/Caps 2008

Semi final match between Can/Czech in the 2004 World Cup

Gold Medal game between Canada and USA in 2002 Olympics

You and I are one in the same, my friend. That's pretty much my exact list. With game 2 of the 87' Canada Cup being far and away my favourite.

I would also put game 6 of this years final into that category. Staal with a huge shorty, the 3 or 4 saves by Scuderi to finish the game. Probably the best game 6 and 7 I've ever seen in a 7 game play-off series.

Yes the 1987 Canada Cup Game #2 is the best of all time without a second thought with me as well.

Hmmm, Game #6 of the 2009 finals. Now I know Staal got the classic shorthanded goal in Game #4 on that end to end rush but was his goal in Game #6 a shortie as well on the two-on-one? I can't find the boxscore for that. But yes, Scuderi's foot save in the crease at the end (which got him a HUGE contract in LA) and don't forget Fleury's breakaway save on Cleary with a minute left too. Come to think of it, Game #6 had be tense as well, lol

Yep, come to think of it, you are right. His goal in game 6 was the one where the rebound came right back out to him off the initial shot and he buried it. Game 4 holds it's own in that series though. The short handed goal was great, it was also a see-saw battle for a while and the Kunitz, Crosby, Kennedy tic-tac-toe play finished it off.

On TV ... all 3 games of the 87 Canada Cup final, were played at the absolute highest level, with game 2 probably being the best-of-the best.

I'd probably have the Canada - Sweden World Cup semi-final game in 1996 as the next best game.

As for NHL games

NY Isles - Washington ... game 7 Easter Epic.

Flyers - Pens .. longest game in modern NHL history

Now as for games I've been at in person, that are my favorite, not necessarily the best:

1980 Olympics - USA - Finland ... I missed the Miracle on Ice by 2 days ... but saw the US clinch the gold medal against Jari Kurri and Finland.

1987 - Stanley Cup Finals - Game 6 - Flyers fought back to force a game 7 vs. th emighty Oilers

2004 - Eastern Conference Finals - Game 6 - A heroic Keith Primeau forces a game 7.

2 Other games I was at that were fun for more notorious reasons:

March 11, 1979 .. Flyers 6, Kings 3 .... should be a normal regular season game.

Here is the 1st period boxscore:

1 - PHI : Bill Barber 25 (Blake Dunlop) (EV) 4:30

What a beautiful goal too. This was when Zetterberg and Lidstrom were on the ice for the sole reason to shadow Crosby. I'll never forget their reaction after the goal it's almost as if they looked at each other to say "how could we have stopped that?"

Favorite game I've seen: Game #6, First Round, 1989, Flames at Vancouver. Canucks facing elimination. Late in the 2nd period with the game tied Rich Sutter scores the go ahead goal, place was rocking, and then a few seconds later Garth Butcher....GARTH FREAKIN BUTCHER....scores. I have never heard a building that loud before or since. Canucks win 6-3 and force game seven.

Best game I've seen: Game #7, same series, Flames win in OT 4-3. I hardly watched the playoffs after that because I knew I wouldn't see a game that would come near it the rest of the playoffs.

Worst game I've seen: See above. Game # 7........sigh !!!!
