As much as I can't stomach Ovechkin, i would think he'd have to be on the roster, even if it is over Yashin.

Much of Yashin's international career was mediocre. From 2000-2006 he played 45 games at the Olympics, World Cup & World Championships. In those 45 games he had 9 G, 13 A. So he'd have to be behind Ovechkin.

For Sweden it would basically be our 2006 olympic team + Erik Karlsson

You must be right. I had in mind international games, but all of them (KLM - FK) began to play some years prior to 1979 (even if it was couple of games and limited minutes). If we're not allowed to include them, my team will be like this:

Mogilny - Fedorov - P.Bure
Kamenskiy - Bykov - Khomutov
Kovalchuk - Datsuk - Malkin
Ovechkin - Zhamnov - Kovalev
Yashin

Zubov - Konstantinov
A.Markov - Malakhov
Gonchar - Gusarov
Kasparaytis

Khabibulin
Nabokov
Varlamov

Btw, It will be even more interesting, to speak without any time limit:) How about this team of USSR/Russia of ALL the time:

Kharlamov - Petrov - Mikhailov
Krutov - Larionov - Makarov
Mogilny - Fedorov - P.Bure
Kovalchuk - Datsuk - Malkin
Maltsev

Fetisov - Kasatonov
Zubov - Vasilyev
A.Markov - Konstantinov
Ragulin

Tretyak
Myshkin
Khabibulin

I'd like to watch some super series between this team and other world's one :)
I'm sure we'll win:);)

Germany, missing out great talents like Erich Kühnkackl, Trunschtka, Kießling etc.

Not really sure about the forwards, something including Sturm, Goc, Hecht, Felski, and Wolf. ;)

Krupp - Ehrhoff
Seidenberg - Hiemer
Schubert - Lüdemann

Kolzig
"Peppi" Heiß

Indeed, i would say it's impossible to make a German team with those condotions.

It simply feels wrong to exclude Kühnhackl, Schloder, Reindl, Truntschka, Kießling and so on:cry::cry:

So do it anyway, other people have done it before.

As for Sweden, i took the OP as he meant i was to pick one edition and then it was the 2006 one, but if were talking all time we must include the players whole careers in the NHL, WC, Canada Cups and so forth, otherwise it's too few games to go by, and for Canada Lemieux might not be on the team. :help:

On forward there are many modern players, becouse i simply dont think many of our guys in the seventies and eighties were equally good:

Markus Näslund-Peter Forsberg-Daniel Alfredsson
Mats Sundin-Kent Nilsson-Henrik Zetterberg
Daniel Sedin-Henrik Sedin-Tomas Sandström
Jan Erixon-Samuel PÃ¥hlsson-BengtÃ…ke Gustafsson
Tomas Holmström

Nicklas Lidström-Lennart Svedberg
Börje Salming-LarsErik Sjöberg
Calle Johansson-Ulf Samuelsson
Mattias Öhlund

Henrik Lundqvist
Pelle Lindbergh
Pekka Lindmark

You cannot leave out Anton Stastny. Delete Nagy. I would also include Lubomir Sekeras and perhaps Dusan Pasek.
