Mine was in soccer.. It was the intramurals for my school, and it was the championship game. I'm playing net and we're in extra shooters.

So this fat girl comes up ready for a kick and I'm just envisioning it in my head the normal thing that happens when a girl tries to kick the ball. She barely hits it and it spins slowly towards me.. So as soon as she lines up for the kick, I drop to my knees.. Somehow the ball hits the crossbar, I turn around to swing at it and pull it out, but it dropped into the net. That was the winning goal.

That was my embarassing moment in sports.

Maybe she was good? :sarcasm:

-coming to the rink an hour late for an important playoff game.
-in spring hockey once i didn't hear the coach calling me off and when i finally did i turned to the bench and tripped over my own stick. especially embarassing considering there was no play going on.
-getting hipchecked by a girl half my size cause i didn't see her (my head was clear above her i'm 6'4 she was like 5'2)

Near embarrasing off ice moment

a store near where I live had a sign that was exactly as I am going to type it

hockey
head
Quarters

I nearly went in and asked for the commerative hockey coins, until I realized the positioning of the words in 3 seperate rows, with only Quarters capitalized had caused a misread.

Of course, the sign actually meant Hockey Headquarters:p:

I guess for me it was 3 years ago..just got back into hockey after being out of it for a year....I was on defense, and a puck was coming back to me around the boards in the offensive zone, as it got to me it hopped over my stick, the winger was right there, got the puck and scored on a breakaway to break a 3-3 tie with about 30 seconds left. I never felt that bad in hockey....so thats my moment.

Aside from knocking a few pucks into my own net or tripping over the blue line countless times here's my best moment....

We were getting killed this one game, everything that went at the net went in. After another goal for them I skate to the center ice dot for the faceoff. I was a little winded so I'm standing there hunched over with my hands on my knees, head down. After a few seconds i realize I'm all alone. I look over my shoulder and everyone is at the corner dot in our zone, looking at me & laughing.

The goalie made the save.

Ah, another gem. I'm on the bench (I was asst coach for our PeeWee team at the time). One of our guys shoots the puck at the boards to dump it into the zone but it goes a little high & hits me square in the nutz. I still hear about that 5 years later. (Hey coach, remember that time...) :biglaugh:

A guy i reffed with did that right in front of the zamboni and just about got run over.

as for me, when i was 9 the ref signaled for a faceoff behind me but i thought he was giving me a penalty so i skated to the box and actually sat down. also a couple of years ago i dumped the puck in on a breakaway.

I haven't had any terrible mistakes, but I had a week where I couldn't do anything right last year. One of the games I was defending a 2-1 and the guy went to pass it across, I turned it went off my foot and right past the goalie. Another one was I threw a pass across the ice in my own zone (yeah bad idea), I passed it, and the pass was right on the stick of the winger from the other team, came down and scored on a breakaway, I got ripped on the bench, my coach flipped. What made it worse was that it was against my rival school.

I've tripped over the blueline on a 1-1, the guy didn't score at least.

I had a breakaway, the puck went on an edge and I shot it and it went about a foot wide of the net.

Whiffing on a slapshot is a bad feeling also.

A couple season ago our captain showed up at the Bantam A championship game without his bag. We were able to scrounge enough spare stuff together so that he could play, but geezus Paul....

well,it would have to be playing goalie.(no i'm not a goalie however i can play goal adequately enough and have the full gear.)i actually play center and skate very well so of course i decide to revolutionalize the keeper position(picture marty brodeur puckhandling version 3.0)anyway on one of my many forays out to capture the puck with my goalstick and fire the perfect pass,i got all the way to the blue line and my defenseman swung deep in the zone past me.we made eye contact so i lead him with a sweet rifle of a pass .and as he turned the other way i watched it sail right between the pipes in my own net.
note:it's amazing what funny things people on the other team can come up with on the spur of the moment.

i was also involved i one of the craziest hockey plays ever but i still prefer not to talk about it.

One of my teammated gave himself a concussion, he went to hit this guy, missed, smacked his head on the glass and went right down. I was on the bench at that time and my coach asked me "He did that to himself didn't he".

Mine was playing pickup a couple of years ago. I've been playing for 37 years and played at AA minor pro level back in the day. I can still play some but I'm 43. So I am playing pickup and coming up the ice and I let a pass go right at center ice in front of both benches because I see someone in my way. I look right after I let the pass go and try to avoid the other player who turns out to be a 5' tall woman who plays occasionally. She plays in the mens league and she can play a little but she is little. I try and avoid her and do a spin and end up falling over her and trying to keep from killing her at the same time. She lands on top of me and in front of 25 guys on both benches says really loudly "are you o.k?" You'd have thought that was the funniest thing those guys had ever heard. Every time I went by the bench the rest of the night I heard "are you o.k?" in high pitched voices.

It happened a few years ago when I got called up to a tournament game for a team that I had been cut from.
I didn't, and still don't, think I deserved to be cut from that team, but that's besides the point.
The point is I was all pumped up and ready to show the coaches and the other players that I could play at that level.
So anyways seeing as it was the later stages of the tournament they were announcing each player one by one with the spotlight and all that jazz.
Being a call up I had the leftover number which in this case was #2.
So the goalies get called out first and then the first player to be called out is me.
I take my running start to the door, hop through, and as my feet hit the ice they continue forward and right out from under me.
I fall backwards so hard I can see stars, but I try to get up right away and fall again.
After a few minutes of looking like a fish out of water I realize that I never took off my skateguards.
Once I finally get skating I give the crowd, who are all rolling on the floor laughing by now, a little salute.

I made up for it by scoring the game winning goal and assisting on another in the 3-1 win.

I think mine was during a pickup session. I'm a C/D leaguer, BTW, but I have a really good wrist shot. I shoot right, and I'm about a foot and a half away from the left wing goalpost, almost straddling the goalline as it comes towards the endboards. Puck comes to me and the goalie dives in my direction so I lift it.....up.....over the goalie....over the crossbar....over the GLASS....and over the PROTECTIVE NETTING! It basically just went at the sharpest possible angle it could go at without hitting a damn thing except the wall of the building.

I just dropped to my knees and put my head down. My teammate hit me in the back of the head, and everybody on both teams is cracking up.

Back in 1999 I was a left winger on a house league team. Because we were at a low level, refs hardly ever bothered to do such things like throw a player out of the faceoff circle. But one game, we were in the opposing teams zone and the refs decided to throw our player out of the circle after after a fake puck drop.

So I was in, and one thing I knew was when the puck dropped to turn your back against the player to avoid him from getting it. So I did that and we won the faceoff.

HOWEVER, that glory moment would be short lived as my mind was racing so fast I thought, becasue I was facing our goalie with the puck, that I was in our own teams zone.

I started skating to our own end and just realized what I was doing and quickley turned back! It was too late, I was past the blue line and some of my players were still in, I was called offside.

My teammates began skating up to me on the ice wanted to figure out what the hell my "method" was. I was pretty red.

Normally i'm a Center but our goalie didn't show up so i had to play goalie. So during the game i'm sitting there in goal watching the play and one of our guys got speared and i was pissed about it so i came flying out the net to go after the guy(kinda like how Hextall did to Chelios) and when i came skating out i got near the guy and tripped and fell and slid right past him. I felt so stupid.
