I feel he would have the advantage because he would be less likely to pass through waivers.

Maybe the Oilers will give us a second and third for Kinkaid :sarcasm:

I really, REALLY hope Albany wins this series, they don't even have to go all the way. I just desperately want to see the faces on all those Leafs fans that claimed they weren't tanking by keeping the Marlies stacked and not calling up their prospects, and have almost cashed in the Calder Cup already because of it.

If we beat Toronto I want at least a trip to the finals, if not the Calder Cup. Be a decent let down if we beat the top seed just to lose in the 3rd round. It would be a great experience for our prospects there. An excellent experince for Boosh, Blender, Severson, and the potential new comers in Lappin, Pietlla, Lorito, and of course Wedge.

Maybe Toronto will give us a 1st for Wedgewoid? :)

Especially if we wind up playing Wilkes-Barre in the next round...that series'll be another holy war, at least for management lol

Definitely a position I think our prospect pool has them beat.

I don't buy the hype of their prospect pool at all. They're definitely some nice pieces in their pool, no question about it... but HF has them as the 4th best organization...honestly not seeing it. At least, not seeing it comparison to us at 29.

I have a feeling I will enjoy looking back at these rankings in 5 or 6 years.

They have a lot of pieces, especially at forward.

However, they have no goalie of the future. I don't think their defenders outside of Reilly are all that promising. I don't care how many forward prospects they have because the defense/goaltending are what makes a team. Even then, their forward prospects seem to be more of the flashy variety like Marner, Nylander, Leipsic, Soshnikov, etc. Matthews certainly helps them to give them a Kopitar/Toews-like center. On top of that, I feel like they drafted a lot of the skilled guys that fell in the draft like Timashov that everyone wants to like because they put up loads of points.

Devils may be ranked low, but I like how they are rebuilding. To me, Toronto is doing it all backwards.

They without a doubt have some good pieces, but ya I don't think the gulf is as big as the main board and some rankings want to make it.

Nylander is a big disappointment. Maybe he is hurt or still sick but he is playing soft and is floating.

Big thing with our prospect pool is by watching them I really trust that Kowalski and his crew is teaching these kids how to play the game correctly. Strong, 2 way game, and never quitting on a play. No one is allowed to float on this team. Boosh and Blender just to name two are learning how to be effective even when not scoring.

Lappin never quits on a play and is a bit of a beast when on the puck.

I see a lot of Clarkson in him.

Not the 30 goal Clarkson that miraculously occurred somehow, but just that gritty style of play Clarkson brought while chipping in goals here and there. I think the staff might've found an interesting piece for our RW depth.

Definitely seems to have a style of play that a lot of coaches like. I'm not sure exactly what we have, but I do think we have something in this kid.

Two thoughts:

1) I've only seen him on highlight reels (since I'm cheap, ha ha), but I like Lappin's play a lot. Seems to have a good combination of skill and determination. Lappin in beast mode is a force to be reckoned with.

2) This was a great way to force a game seven. Beating Toronto by a considerable margin should give the Devils confidence. Keeping my fingers crossed for a game seven win by the Devils.

They have 2 1st line forward prospects in Marner and Nylander and a ton of other forwards. Defense is weaker but they already have Rielly and Gardiner at the NHL level along with a bunch of other decent younger players. Nielsen and Dermott had fine seasons in junior. Then they have a load of forwards. Sparks and Bibeau are not nothing, though obviously neither one looks like an NHL starter.

This is what I talk about when I talk about not knowing other organizations. I wouldn't rank NJ 29th anymore - pretty much all their best guys had at least good years and some had great years - but the Leafs at 4 seems pretty good to me.

On the whole, I don't know nearly enough about every teams prospect pools to say whether or not the Leafs should be at #4.

I just think that while they have nice pieces, I think their pool is a bit flawed. Goaltending and defense takes much longer to develop than forwards yet they have tons of offensive depth but little on the back end or in goal. At the same time, they have a lot of trading chips so they could address that.

Not digging the comparison, Lappin seems to have a much more complete game. And prob lacks the true scrappiness that Clarkson had.

Just watched the game here are my thoughts:

Wedgewood - Couldn't be any better. Showed up for the biggest game in his career thus far and shined.

Boucher/Lappin - These two were animals all game. They were ferociously forechecking and making opportunities for each other. Lappin's goal was caused by the extra work from Boucher keeping the puck in the zone, and Black's goal was a direct outcome of the effort Lappin put in on the walls.

Severson - The kid was unbelievable in this game. This was his most composed game all series* and he neutralized Nylander. He made some great defensive plays as well.

Blandisi - Best game of the series for him, even if it didn't result in any points. When Blandisi can control his penalties and offensive zone turnovers, he is a real treat for us. He set up many scoring chances and was driving possession in the OZ.

PK/Defense - Great job by all.

Well he kind of had to, considering he wasn't all that good(to be kind) the past several games. Let's hope he can churn out another similar performance on Monday.

Boucher/Lappin - These two were animals all game. They were ferociously forechecking and making opportunities for each other. Lappin's goal was caused by the extra work from Boucher keeping the puck in the zone, and Black's goal was a direct outcome of the effort Lappin put in on the walls.

T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K, man! :yo:

Certainly helped that Sev got a good amount of time in the Big Leagues and basically improved because of it(and using that knowledge and experience here in the AHL and the playoffs).

Blandisi - Best game of the series for him, even if it didn't result in any points. When Blandisi can control his penalties and offensive zone turnovers, he is a real treat for us. He set up many scoring chances and was driving possession in the OZ.

More often than not, he was the guy-leading-to-the-secondary-assist-guy-that-leads-to-the-primary-assist-guy-to-the-goal-scorer. You follow? Glad you understood all that. :sarcasm:

PK/Defense - Great job by all.

We need more of that on Monday and Wedge HAS TO show up like he did in this game.

You said he showed up in the biggest game of his career? Well guess what? MONDAY is going to be the biggest game of his career. He wins that, he advances to the next round. And quite frankly, I want more Baby Devils Postseason action.

I haven't watched the entire series but what's really stood out to me is that Boucher/Lappin both look like polished NHL-quality players. They are dangerous nearly every shift. On the other hand, Blandisi is still just so raw.. he played okay yesterday but didn't seem like he's gotten everything out of the AHL level yet.

I think Boucher should start in the NHL next year (and he has to since he's waiver eligible) but Lappin/Blandisi should be battling it out for first call-up. We are backed up at LW anyways so I'd rather not play one of them on the 4th line.. just wait until Cammy gets injured.

Wedgewood was pretty great. The defense overall was solid and much better than the last two games. Severson consistently looks way too good to be out there, which is awesome to see. Kinda happy Kelly is out of the way.. he seemed more of a liability this series.

ADevs need to cut down the stupid penalties and get out to another early lead. Their defense/goaltending is hands down better than the Marlies..

I agree on Blandisi. I think the most important thing he should work on improving in the offseason is his composure and control of the game. He often plays like a chicken without a head, trying to do to much sometimes when it would be smarter to just dump the puck.

He also needs to improve on his balance (It has looked to improve recently), defensive awareness and discipline.

However, if he can put all of this together, he could be a very exciting player.
