Tampa re-signs Stamkos to a 8 year 9.1 per year contract.

Trades Bishop and Filppula for cap space.

Buy out Carle.

Re-signs Kucherov to a cap friendly deal and for solid term as well.

Actually makes a solid signing for depth scoring at a 1-2 year deal.

I'll slightly change it

-Stamkos walks

-Carle bought out

-We retain both Bishop and Vasi

-We have a bit of a turnover in our bottom 6. A combination of at least 3 additions/subtractions.

It may look underwhelming but I bet were going to be one of the best teams in the league record wise. I have a feeling that Drouin has a monster MVP type season.

I hope so! I just mean on paper we won't look as strong compared to some teams that will inevitably get stronger.

I think you've covered it except Namestikov is allowed to walk also.

Vinny is still under contract to LA, and he can't retire, then immediately unretire and sign with us.

The Rangers would never go for this but I'd trade Callahan for Nash with enough retention to bring his cap hit down to Callahan's $5.8M (a little over 25% if I'm doing this properly - not sure how retention works with contracts with uneven annual salaries in terms of the cap hit.) We keep him on the team for one season and then buy him out in 2017 before we have to resign everybody. If my methodology is correct with the retention our cap hit on the buyout would be about $1.73M in 2017 and about $2.03M in 2018. Assuming replacement by a player on his ELC we'd be looking at saving about $3M in effective cap space for resigning players.

I would do that trade. Doubt the Rangers would.

Nash Stamkos Drouin
Palat Johnson Kucherov
Brown Namestnikov FA
Paquette Boyle

That looks like a dangerous top 6

For one season, before we lose half of it.
