Helped the flames ****** special teams as well. Embarrassing weekend performance by this team.

I've essentially lost all patience with this team, which according to, well, Everyone, doesn't bode well for my future as an Oilers fan. Too much of same, too little of same. It doesn't matter.

And they have - what? - another 8 years or so of development as a unit before they can be held accountable, rite?

It's harder to get match-ups that you want on the road so some of that probably had to do with Hartley as well. Regardless that line looked night and day better than against YVR.

Sure they did but mostly just in the first period. The line kind of went away after that and left the rest to the first line to try to get it done.

What strikes me most about the game last night is the difference between these clubs in possessing the puck. Gaudreau will hang onto the puck for as long as he has to to either create an opening, passing lane, or weave his way into a shooting position. In contrast the many talented Oiler players who could be doing some of this are continually forcefeeding passes that are not there and taking muff shots that don't have a chance.

We should be working to possess the puck until the opponent takes it away. ESPECIALLY in a game in which we twice had a 2 goal lead.

We had the edge in this game and we were playing trackmeet hockey. To get scored on while on the PP was the culminating moment of stupidity in this game but it was happening throughout the game.

Schultz is getting roasted in this thread again. I agree he was at fault for the winning goal but he was also the only one back on the crucial shorty we allowed. Wasn't much he could do on that as it was a 3 on 1 break meaning we had 4 players caught in bad position on the PP all of which have culpability in the goal.

But I have to say Nillsons handling of that sequence was absurd. Despite the oddman rush the Flames player ineffectively muffs a shot into Nillson who should've gobbled that one up like a kid in a candy store. Instead he clumsily allows the rebound on a shot Talbot would easily have covered, the Flames get the bounce and they manage to jam it home after Schultz makes a save. The puck is in, light is flashing, and Nillson is still down on his pads on the other side of the net leaving a wide open cage.

Nillson was truly awful in this game. His GAA in the last 5 GP is over 4. Frankly he sucks right now. Despite the one fantastic save he made he gave up 3 weak goals in this one.

Talbot was bad in relief too.

This current d squad due to injuries is probably screwing with the goalies heads.

And that was primarily on Hall, for going for the big hit (good) but at the worst possible time (very bad), leading to a 3 on 1.

Agreed that Hall is to blame on the play. But also a PP design that stubbornly continues to rely on a 4 forward 1 D set thus resulting in this type of risk of oddman breaks developing. Its lol in general that Woodcroft figures Schultz should be that lone D back there.

As stupid as that play is by Hall its monumentally stupid decision by coaching staff continuing to forcefeed schemes that are not working.

Most teams have 2 d on their 2nd pp and 1 d on their top pp but only because they have a real pp qb on the top pp unit.

My hope for the next game pp units.

Hall - Drai - Purcell
Hunt - Nurse

Pouliot - RNH - Eberle
Sekera - Fayne

Keep it ****ing simple, look at how Boston does it. 2 d, 3 skilled forwards.

Not here to gloat, but I really don't understand the hate Shultz gets around here. It's not his fault that he's given 20 ES minutes a night against other teams top lines. He's a bottom pairing defender/PP specialist but the Oilers have 0 top-4 defensemen on their team. How is that on Shultz?

And why the heck was Nillsson pulled? The guy was making the saves he needed to make and was let down by awful defense. Not fair to pull him in between periods. Also kind of dumb Mclellan refused to pull the goalie just so Johnny wouldn't get the hattrick. Turned that 5% comeback chance into 0%.

What? In what world did McLellan not pull the goalie to not give Johnny the hattrick?

He didn't pull the goalie cause he knew the team couldn't win and was sending a message. Jesus.

In what world is Schultz a pp specialist?

Lol this post.

Schultz is not a PP specialist he ****ing sucks on the PP.

Nilsson played well to start the game but the goal he let in on Gio's first goal was weak and obviously the team needed a shake up.

As for the Johnny comment oh my if you truly believe that I can't begin to understand the world of delusion you live in. The team was doing absolutely nothing offensively and had no pushback thats why he didn't pull the goalie.

Davidson and Hunt on the ice. Sekera and Schultz taking turns on the 2nd pp.
Kind of looking like Schultz might sit

Pretty sad you guys actually believe that was the reason. Super homer Kelly Hrudey explained during the broadcast why McLellan didn't pull Talbot.

Jultz can go do night security at Rogers Place for the forseeable future.

Sekera - Nurse
Davidson - Fayne
Hunt - Gryba

Something like that.

Unfortunately the options are somewhat limited, even before Klefa went down with injury. Brad Hunt is not the answer for this team, but what the hell, he has a big shot and knows how to run a PP. He'll give the puck away and be soft as butter, just like Schulz, but if he can kickstart the man advantage, they have to run with it.

Why not use Nikitin on the PP then?

He has a decent point shot at least. 4 forwards is just not working for us.

There is more to a pp then just a shot. Hense why Nikitin is not on the pp like...ever.
