Solid deal. Glad to have him locked up long term, he was a monster all playoffs long.

Solid deal? Wilson was an RFA. If he was on the open market, you think he'd get ~6.5 to 7 million?

Overpaid by 1.5-1.75mil and long term for his style of player.

Beauty in the playoffs and a team warrior but like everyone else stating not a great contract.

For what he has done so far in his career, thats an absolutely awful contract... Atleast this is his prime years but wtf what an overpayment...

Giving big contracts to a players who overachieve during a long playoff run almost never work out.

Bad, bad contract.

The term doesn't bother me as much as the cap hit. He just turned 24 a few months back so this contract runs out when he's 30 so you'll get him through his prime. The cap hit is insane though for a role player. His career high is 35 points. He's never going to be a 50-60 point player.

I don’t know man the term is pretty shocking.......I don’t know what’s worse either. Both are bad

He would have easily gotten that or more in the open market. Fair deal

So you're saying it's a bad deal then. If Wilson would have got 5 million as a UFA like you're arguing, then the Caps overpaid him by paying an RFA a UFA rate.

And he was an RFA too, wasnt he? They had negotiating leverage on him. And he still earned a 6 year / $5.17M contract.

He was good in the playoffs, but he simply does not produce enough, especially in the regular season, to warrant that salary. How would he have produced in the playoffs if he didn't play with Kuznetsov or Ovechkin?
