Bergevin, who had to be adorning an excellent suit while doing this, clearly wants him back. But he's traded him to the team that I would imagine is the most likely to otherwise re-sign him.

 so much for that talk of a 2nd round pick +. And they had to retain!

2 retention slots used up...
Thought he was only worth a 7th.
Didn't it go something like ...Why would anyone give up something they could had got for free.

Let's just all agree the prices don't make any sense this year.

Andy Greene is apparently a better player than Kovy, makes sense alright...

MB turned a 4th into a 2nd and conditional 4 and turned a signing into a 3rd. That’s good assets mgmt, now what’s next?

Remember when Habs fans insisted that Kovalchuk would bring back a 1st or 2nd? Shocking, he brought back exactly what a bunch of comparable players have brought back.

I do find 50% retention on a league minimum deal hilarious, though. How pressed for cap are you that you need that?
Probably would have gotten a 2nd, or at least a 3rd + B prospect if he didn't slow down the last 7 games

Great deal.
Kovy has been much more of a playmaker with Montreal. If he can keep that up he will fit well with the Caps, especially on their PP.
