Thought he was never going to be anything but a 13th forward but he really played well last year. One of the clearer examples between a top 9 player and a 4th liner, but he's a good 4th liner.

Jay Beagles cap hit is double this. You can move a $1.5M contract much easier than a $3M contract.
Heck, you can bury a $1.5M contract in the AHL with only a few hundred K of that showing up as NHL cap hit.

The term is fine as long as the team uses it to negotiate a lower cap hit. The Caps now have their 3LW, 3RW, 4RW, 2LD, and 2RD locked up for a grand total of 11.9M because they’re confident in their pro scouting and willing to gamble on giving these guys 4 years.

You'll love him, Caps fans. I would have like to get him back in Calgary but can see that extra term being enticing for him. 1.5m is fair for both sides.

Actually has decent footspeed for a guy his size. Doesn't break the box much and will block anything. Also has a villainous face which I don't know if that helps but it can't hurt.
I asked a Flames fan friend. He said IQ and willingness to block shooting lanes. His speed is not special, but it's surprisingly solid for someone his size.

I'll tell you this, the Caps certainly won't be fun to play against this upcoming season .. Plenty of size and grit on this roster!!

Okay, I'm not upset. Term might be a year too long but with the AAV it doesn't matter. Caps are going to be a heavy team to play against, it's going to be very entertaining to watch.
This takes even more pressure off Big Willy to play the heavy game and allows him focus on putting up points.

Exactly. There's literally no downside. Even at say, 6 years, if his play somehow goes off a cliff, it's only 1.5mil. Very easy to stick that contract in the AHL and not have to worry about it messing with your cap space

Good signing by the Caps IMO. Loved Hath’s play here. Nothing special, but does a lot of the little things right and is dependable on the PK. Fans will love his play style and energy.
Gonna miss Hath playing for us, but can’t be mad as we likely didn’t offer him much money/term.

So worst case you bury the contract and get penalized a few K at most. You're not selling me as this being an issue.
