He would just wear some sort of ACL brace and play, it would affect his stability but it would not be painful if it happened over a month ago.

Rafalski played with no ACL his entire pro career. Blew it in college and never had it reconstructed. Granted, he had a lot of time to heal up and build up the surrounding muscles and ligaments to compensate.
