I had him pegged around Holtby's deal (6.1Mx5). their stats prior to their deals are similar, Holtby's are better, but Helle has the 2nd place Vezina finish under his belt
Carries a bit of risk after only one Helle of a season, but a gamble that the Jets needed to take. In all likelihood, they have themselves an elite goalie locked down.
How many times have we seen a goalie have a great season only to never reach that level again? Not saying this will happen ofcourse. But it HAS happened a lot.
Good deal for the Jets. Hellebuyck has been tracking as an elite young goalie for several years and showed his quality last season. Having him locked up for 6 years stabilizes the Jets goaltending during this window that they have a contending team, and the AAV is very reasonable.
I would take him for the next 6 years over any goalie but Vasilevskiy so good deal. I thought the same thing about Holtby when the Caps extended him after Carey Price, and he was "coming off 1 good season."
