Get the correct mix of depth players, along with a few star players, you can trump the need to have a generational talent.

Get your talent pool in order at the right time, and, with a lot of luck, you can win a championship without that so called generational talent IMHO!

3 2nd lines is better than a couple generational talents with the exception of D. You pretty much need 1 elite D in the ranks it seems.

Dude, you're missing the point entirely. You do not become a good team by getting 1 or 2 elite players. You become a good team by getting a TEAM of good players. TBL are a good team now, not because of Drouin but because they are a team of good players like palat, kucherov, Johnson etc. Just like Anaheim, just like Detroit it's the depth that makes a difference.

I got your point, my point was you chose to throw Buffalo in there as an example of a team who's not gotten good by tanking when they're barely even started their tank. You can't use them as an example yet.
