Speculation: Would you rather acquire top 4 dman or top 6 forward?

This. To answer the question, i'd take D. Our forwards are not bad, they're balanced and 3 lines deep with some really good prospects on the way. Our D...not so much. We have lots of good kids on D, not all up in Boston right now. All we're missing is that blue chip future #1. Go for Chychrun and go hard. Maybe even over Matthews if you get the #1 overall.

The chance the Bruins get Chychrun or Matthews are very remote.

I'm saying this for years but... until the Bruins understand that playing a more open style require more then cosmetic changes on their roster, it's not going to work. Last game was a clear cut example on how an unexperienced D get all giddy up by playing a more uptempo style without understanding that sound defense = puck possession. Now, changing the philosophy of the team require important changes at the NHL level and in the scouting dept. Simply put: Bruins doesn't have the personnel to afford a "new" system. As today, the Bruins have an AHL caliber defensive squad. Chara will help but if anyone expect McQuaid to play like Paul Coffee, they should buy a lottery ticket and hope for the best. Not sure the people,in here, will be pleased with tonight's result. It's not going to be pretty result...

Yes you have been saying it for years yet the Bruins system and players have been awesome all those years but one. It was a nice run but it has to change. This is their first year trying new system. I like it. A little more exciting up tempo game. Will it lead to promise land? Maybe. The NHL has changed in my opinion for the good. Now let's see if Claude can adapt. ThAts the kicker.

Neither. What we need is a top pairing defenseman.

We likely have options for the middle pair already here if you're willing to let this year serve as development. Krug, C.Miller, Morrow compete for the spots now with it possibly opening up next season if one of the draft picks/prospects makes the jump.

Wasting assets and tying up cap space to try and make this look better now doesn't make sense to me if it doesn't address the real need. Which has been the loss of our #2 guy two seasons in a row with a 38 year old #1 guy with a number of injuries recently.

Roll with what you have.

This, if we are not getting a #1, we are better of saving the assets. Totally agree, we have that in Morrow,Krug and C.Miller, just give them the ice time over the likes of Irwin.

Remote, yes; however, if Boston and San José miss the playoffs, and given the new lottery system, then the odds of the Bruins nabbing Chychrun (I assume that Arizona will get Matthews—Bettman's dream scenario) do improve.

I'd also consider moving multiple pieces to get the pick for chychrun, including multiple firsts this and next year. We got three firsts last year, we can afford to move some for a player like him. Of course, you'd need a trade partner, and therein lies the problem...

Defense to be sure. But I'm not sure there's any easy fix right now. We might have to experience a lot of 'growing pains' before the front office makes a move.

Still remote there are other players i am sure they are looking at as well.
Jake Bean right handed Dman in WHL, Charles Mcavoy ,Kieffer Bellows and many others.
Trader Don may surprise us yet who knows not even the almighty. :)

He's still getting pushed around out there. I'm genuinely surprised when people think that's going to go away.

Both Krug and McQuaid have been shoehorned into a D pair 2 slot time and time again. It's time to stop slapping ourselves in the face. It's time to only half slap ourself in the face.

I really don't care which you send to D-pair 2, whichever fits best with the mythical rock solid on defense 3-4 defenseman we need.

I just put Krug down there because it's probably best if he's sheltered.

But you're right, his defensive awareness has improved. Now if he could just have a growth spurt at age 25 or whatever.

The Bruins could stand to become a tad more realist, and less dreamer.

Time to call it, Krug is a very nice specialist...who will always have a awesome home on D pair 3. Optimum fit. I wouldn't trade him for the world.

It's not even that I disagree with much of your post. It's just the simple fact that it feels like you'd be wasting his offensive upside (his, by far, #1 asset) by not using him as a #4. I get that we don't have that rock solid defensive D-man to go beside him right now, but I give him that spot just so that 2nd pairing has at least some kind of threat to it.

A Top 4 Dman makes the most sense. But, not a rental type dman. We need a fairly young top 4 dman. Obvously not going to be easy but...its exactly what we need.
