Worst thing you can do to your stick

As a more serious answer, nothing makes me shiver more than seeing a composite stick come in contact with concrete/pavement.

Only expensive ones. I play with a $8 composite stick on the concrete. Every now and then I see someone with a top of the line stick out there, and it makes me cringe. I've seen people playing with TotalOnes, RS, and se16s.

That is just insanity... even if they are getting the sticks for free lol.

Well I figure its time to give a serious reply to this thread.

Contact with concrete/pavement really wares the blade especially if your doing snap/slap shots. If you have to stick handle ( for practice) on such a surface keep your stick taped, and better yet find a shooting pad. If you want to play road hockey get a stick specifically for that.

Dont curve your blade this really weakens it.

On ice there are things like excessive stick work, such as slashing, trying to remove the stick from a guys hands as a stick lift, slamming your stick on the boards/ice out of frustration.

Don't flex it, don't let other people flex it. I have seen countless sticks broken in the locker room from people showing off how there new stick can really flex, or letting other teammates flex it. Dont let people use your stick who you know are hard on there own sticks.

Don't try to change the curve by applying heat/stepping on it. Don't get your blade stuck between the crevices near doorways at rinks.

also dont let a scrub on your team use your stick, he may curse it and you will go seasons without scoring again

Kill someone with it.
Impale your self/someone else.
Use it as a hammer.

There's alot of bad things you can do with it.

Happened to a guy on my team 2 years ago. He was skating up the ice and his stick got caught in the crack beside the door and impaled right into his stomach at full speed. Dont ask how his stick was able to get caught in the crack cause I honestly would not be able to explain how it happened. His stick must have curved into it because he was staking up the ice beside the boards.

Anyways he ended up getting a punctured liver and had to stay out almost the whole season. I think it was like 4 months he was out and it probably would have been even longer if we didn't play house with no contact.

I have to say he made some of the weirdest noises I have ever heard. We literally thought he was dying beside us. He just got off a flopped onto the floor.

How about adding tape to the shaft of the stick? All it adds is dead weight.

This. But in the interest of full disclosure, I used to candy-cane my sticks as a kid for grip, but now that you can buy sticks with grip, there's really no point in doing that. and yes, it adds weight to it.

Am I a bad person for laughing at this

I once did this on the side of the net trying to pick up the puck on a skate-by. It didn't puncture my liver or anything, but I felt like a moron getting speared by my own stick.

Smashing it on the boards. Of the three sticks I've ever broken, two have been that way. Granted they were pretty much dead but still not a smart idea.

Yea I broke a couple of cheap sticks doing this. They were pretty much done already, but I smashed them out of frustration and then felt like a total D-Bag afterwards. Won't be doing that again.
