NYI gets an *asterisk because Aatu Raty was supposed to be one of Finland's top players but had to pull out at the last minute due to a COVID positive test.
True, 2 years in a row poor kid. Missing out for essentially nothing but a test weeks in advance and a big blow for Finland, again.

I will say this though, it is kind of nice just being able to watch without having to stress out for our prospects lmao

It's disappointing that some of the d-men picked later in the draft like Jurmo, Persson or Truscott couldn't make their World Jr. squads.

But speaking of late round draft picks who actually made their World Jr. rosters and thrived, whatever happened to Arvid Costmar? He was one of the stories for Sweden in last year's tournament.

Costmar seems to be struggling a bit with his jump to the SHL, I haven't watched him play but his counting stats are practically non-existent. Still, just playing in the SHL at all is good and he could take a step next season with a year of experience under his belt.

Sorry bub its very related to his poor drafting, and poor trading that gutted us of prospects. Empty cupboards for real this time. He effed up our prospect pool and we only have the Zlod to cheer for

There is literally no correlation between the amount of prospects you have in the WJC and the depth of your NHL farm system. A lot of those players will never amount to anything and those numbers can easily be boosted by taking players from weaker nations like, Czech, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Finland ETC. The only teams that usually consist of all top 100 draft picks are Canada, US, and Sweden. Not to mention it is mostly draft +1/+2 players who havent even played a game in the AHL yet.

Its a reflection of no top end prospects. This isnt that complicated. The previous regime drafted quite poorly, and had poor results and still could not accumulate draft picks. Tragically crappy management, and we stuck with a very very shallow prospect pool and this WJC is a nother indicator of it (even if it alone is not the sole indicator - that way you cant puprosely misinterpret this)

Err, there is actually a huge correlation between the number of prospects you have at the WJC and the depth of your farm system for the two years in question (18 and 19-year-olds). If you think the Canucks have a bunch of good 18 and 19-year-old prospects who aren't at the WJC...they don't.

The only time there may not be a correlation is if a team's 18 and 19 year old prospects have become regulars in the NHL and aren't loaned to the WJC, which is certainly not the case for the Canucks this year.
