I've never mentioned this before on this site, but I've known "Sammy" since he was 5-6 years old. My son and Sam played together on every youth hockey team from Mites through Bantams, including some summer AAA teams. Sam's dad (Mark) was their coach for many of those years.

Needless to say that it's been pretty awesome seeing Sam, a kid who always had that kool-aid mustache and usually complained when I tied his skate laces for him because they were never "tight enough", sign a professional contract with the Wild. Kind of mind blowing actually.

Wish he would have stayed, but with school's not being allowed to have scholarships for their 5th years anymore, and with his injury history, now was probably the right time.
