There's no doubt that Chevy had what may turn out to be the best draft ever last year. Plus a few of the previous draft picks are looking good as well.

I would be totally fine trading away our aging vets like Buff and Jokinen for a younger talent, even if it meant losing for another 3 years. Let's get rid of them before they become depreciating assets. (ok, Jokinen probably too late for the most part).

This core will never win a Cup, but let's take a look at what our team could look like in 3-4 years

Kane, Petan (young star forward - traded for Buff, Jokinen and sweetener)
Ladd, Little and Wheeler (veteran line)
Kosmachuk, Scheifele, Setoguchi
Frolik, Lowry, Lipon/O'Dell)

Trouba, Bogosian,
Morrisey, Enstrom
Kostalek, Postma
Kitchton, Redmond, 2014 #1 draft, Karlstrom?

Comrie
Hellebuyuk

If they all bloom together we could have a great 5 or 6 year run at the cup.

I agree with your assessment, but disagree with some of your placements. I don't see us holding onto Seto. The way I see it:

Ladd - Scheifele - Wheeler (bigger, stronger players)
Kane - Petan - Little (nimble, fast line)
Kosmachuk/Tangradi - Lowry - Frolik (good shutdown with scoring touch)
???/O'Dell - Faceoff specialist (Wright?) - Peluso (tough assignments)

Enstrom - Bogosian (experience)
Morrissey - Trouba (young but talented as all heck)
???/Kostalek - Redmond/Postma (capable 5/6)

Comrie/Hellebuyck (it's only realistic to hope that one of them turns out)
??? (backup goalies don't much matter)

Multipoint nights for Petan, Lodge and Kostalek.

Kostalek has 10 points in 5 games and has already tied last seasons points with less than 50% of the same games.

Good on all fronts

Have you watched Kostalek play garret? What type of game does he play and who would be a do probable player to him style wise in the NHL?

Watched a few games. Always interesting to do since the PBP is in French and I'm terrible at it.

Not good at comparables but I can tell you what I see:

Great skater, vision and gap control
Poor shot but not terrible, but definitely not NHL level
Tends to adjust his style depending on his d-partner
Loves to be physical and big hits, not a good fighter though
Needs mass for NA game but smart

Will be fun to watch at WJC, is all but guaranteed top pair for Czech

Not that unexpected as a non-draft on a meh offensive team but worth the risk from asset management angle.

Right now his pace is about equivalent to Brassards 3rd year but is only above Sutter's 2nd.

Understood, and think he is worth the signing of course , may be the type of player better at the next level than this one too.

Oh of course! I was just adding to the convo haha :)

Now back to one of my pet prospects Kostalek. :D

I think he has some very safe 2nd pair upside but obviously no prospect is a guarantee. His IQ I find is very underrated.

It's always been great to watch the WJC , but now that we are getting players to follow during it , so much the better.

It gives a good condensed look , against better players , and also with better players in pressure situations.

Really looking forward to seeing his games as I have not watched him much at all.

Hes raw but he is one of the best prospects the jets have. So smart and safe potential scuderi type. LOVE his game. Great pick.

Always good to read posts like this about any draft pick let alone a 4th round pick.

Morrissey, Petan, Comrie, Lodge, Lipon, Copp, Kostalek, all before the 5th round and we also flipped some picks to land Frolik. Way early still and its easy to get overhyped about prospects but this does feel like a good draft year for our team.

One will always get overhyped on their own prospects, but it definitely was a good draft as it was high on upside. To me that is the way to go and I was personally very excited with the Jets picks this last draft.

Drafting for a *potential* bottom 6 with picks that are almost equal in value of the pick for trading proven solid bottom 6 piece to me doesn't make sense.

Tucker Poolman was named USHL defenseman of the week. Kinda forgot about him.

He has 5 assists in his last 2 games, and is second in the league among defensemen in scoring.
