So after a decent rookie season last year Matthews finished 20th in league scoring with 69 points in 82 games. Currently he is tied for 26th in league scoring with 26 points in 25 games. Seems like there are quite a bit of players outperforming him this season but the season is still young.

Can we expect Matthews to crack the top 15 in league scoring this year? Or will he need another year to reach his generational potential?

Other generational superstars like McDavid, Crosby, and Gretzky lead the league in scoring in their second seasons. Lemiuex finished 2nd in his second year. This is Matthews second year, what can we expect from him?

Is he 'generational' though? I think he finishes with about 85-90 points. Some of the guys ahead of him will slow down.

If youre going to get upset with generational predictions on small sample sizes and projections then you should also be pretty upset with yourself making these threads.

Good prediction. If he can keep up his current point/game pace he might be able to hit 75 points this season. But with league scoring up this year, I don't know if that'll be good enough to be top 15.

He missed a few games early in November, returned to the lineup in mid-November, and hasn't really found his stride since.

He was looking unstoppable before his time away.

He will find his feet and his touch again. Just a matter of time. Once he does, I'm sure he will fly up the charts.

He can, for sure.

He currently sits 150th in PP time, so I'm sure if he was getting well over 3+ minutes like other stars it would be a slam dunk.

Thankfully the team doesn't care about his production as much as bottom feeding team fans do though!

He has not looked good since coming back from the mysterious injury. Really fighting the puck.

Yeah, he'll probably finish in the top-15. Without looking it up, I think 15th in scoring in the NHL is usually in the lower to mid 70s in points, so I think he'd be a safe bet to hit that.
