We're missing 2012 Gonchar, not necessarily 2013 Gonchar. If we're willing to take on someone's bad contract there may be some good defensemen (better than 2013 Gonchar) available out there.

I'm actually happy with the way the team played the past couple of games. But in both cases we lost due to some soft goals and some defensive mistakes. I like the new defensive pairings, and McStache finally moved away from the Greening-Smith-Neil line. Baby steps.

I'm guessing he's a player who'll be as good as he wants to be.

He was great in Toronto until RC took over. Then he turned our 2nd line into a checking line and seemed to decide he thought Macarthur was lazy. He can disappear but when he's motivated he can do a lot.

Which is funny because he did the same thing with Lupul in Anaheim.

I've heard this from a lot of Leaf fans, and while I don't doubt that it has been the case, Macarthur has been arguably Ottawa's most consistent forward when it comes to work ethic. Over 20 games.

It's been really nice to see, he busts his ass off every night. Maybe he just needs to be relied on in an offensive role to be motivated.

Carlyle admitted he was wrong with Lupul.

MacArthur is what he is. Carlye didn't hold him back, he always played with good players, whether filling in on the Kessel line if needed, playing with Kadri or Grabo.

Mac is just good when he wants to play and meh when he doesn't.

Funny a Maple Leaf fan in here telling us MacArthur is what he is. Maybe your team did not see him achieve his full potential?

Well, mac this year isn't even matching his best production as a leaf a couple years back, so i'm not sure he's realizing any new potential.

Lmfao, yeo, isn't this guy the same one to laugh at Sens fans when we said he'd be on our top 6? Lmfao, yo Zeke wtf u doing here of all people?

I thought Ottawa played great game but 2 things missing: A top 3 defender and goaltending.

Goaltending we have but the defender will soon follow.

Also, That top line is lols. Conacher plays lethal on that 3rd line, don't change it. I could see Spezza trying harder I really do but he keeps making stupiddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd plays consistently.

Also, I think we found our saving grace on the PP!

ZIBANEJAD ON THE LEFT SIDE BABY!!!!

That will give us so may goals, mark my words.

Just replace Spezza with Turris now.

Conacher in front, Ryan and Turris cycle, Zibanejad and Karlsson on point.

PP2: Michalek/Greening infront, MacArthur and Spezza cycle Wiercioch and Karlsson on point.

well it's no good to question someone who simply leaves an input

but to me it's good news that he's played better on the Leafs because it means it should be sustainable, well at least more sustainable than Karlsson ppg pace which zeke said wasn't sustainable :sarcasm:

We're missing 2012 Gonchar, not necessarily 2013 Gonchar.

Oh yeah, there's definitely no guarantee that 2013-14 Gonchar would duplicate 2012-13 Gonchar's impact.

I'm just saying, Gonchar provided a huge part of what made us successful last year. I'm not saying we necessarily should have re-signed him , because who knows if his game would have jumped off a cliff the way it seems to have done this year in Dallas, but it's clear that we haven't replaced what we lost when he left.

We were hoping Wiercioch could replace some of that, and so far, IMO, that has been the worst gamble we took in the offseason.

Andy sucked tonight, that's a fact.

Spezza, our captain and supposed leader, was mostly invisible(yet again), fact as well.

And yes, inconsistency is our worst enemy this season and I don't see how this can change unless there is a personnel change as well.

Its all fine and dandy that we played well, but that fact is we still made the stupid mistakes that cost us goals all season. Not to mention the fact that Ryan/Turris/Methot switched off for the final goal. We could play "well" like this for the rest of the season and still lose a ton of games.

The energy of this team over the last few years has come from the young guns but MacLean is so afraid that the vets will turn on him that he's overcompensating and giving them way too much leeway and ice time. We may not all agree but one thing you can say about the little general is that he was irreverent towards the Heatleys of this world. MacLean doesn't need to go that far but he has to put a bit of that in his repertoire. His current message is falling on deaf ears.

The little general?

Give your head a shake...

Can't believe we lost that game... Not a lot of close chances given up, but they still scored 4 goals lol

I'm actually happy with the way the team played the past couple of games. But in both cases we lost due to some soft goals and some defensive mistakes. I like the new defensive pairings, and McStache finally moved away from the Greening-Smith-Neil line. Baby steps.

What I liked the most is that finally the forwards have been raising their 2-way games, coming back deeper to give more options to the D-men, making their life a lot more easier. Yes, the defense has its part of the blame, but they're really not as bad as people think. With normal goaltending, we wouldn't have given up more than 2 GA in the last 4-5 games. Karlsson plays probably too much so he's bound to mental letdowns and we need that 2nd pair veteran so everyone could slot in nicely but they're going in the right direction. Now it's goaltending that needs to wake up, they have been a huge part of the last 4-5 loss

Hate to say it, but this team really misses what Gonchar brought to the team last year.

IMO, he was a huge key to settling our defence down last year. I don't think it's a coincidence that in the same year he leaves, our D falls apart worse than a counterfeit Lego set.

So I am not crazy or <insert insult > like I have been called to defend Gonchar all the way? Looks like posts about Gonchar are more and more similar to what I was saying back then

However, all good things come to end and in both Alfie and Gonch, it was inevitable due to their ages. Could have played here this year but their games would have probably drop-off but yeah, we could use their experience and leadership, but that would also mean we would be spending tight to the cap, which is impossible at this point in time

The most pathetic thing about the game, was when the crowd started chanting "GO SENS GO" after Turris and Mac scored the shorthanded goal and the Sens let one in on the powerplay.

Everyone was so happy that the Sens had scored a highlight reel goal in the beginning of the game and while on the PK. I could tell everyone in the building just wanted a reason to cheer, then 30 seconds later we give up a weak goal against and the building felt as lost as the team looked.

Andy let his team down on that play. Check that weak stick attempt on the replay, made him unprepared for his positionning after his lateral movement, giving up more holes for the shot to go in. Andy on his game would have stopped this, easily. Yeah, disappointing

Point production isn't everything. MacArthur has been much better this year. He has become a much more complete and consistent player.

This game:
Neil sucks now. Karlsson has pretty big arms, but was out muscled by fat-boy Dany Heatley.

This year:
Seems like losing Gonchar and Alfredsson was a terrible mistake. It would be too bad if we only lost those players due to money concerns. I am not a local Ottawa fan, I don't know the business side of it (Casino). Owner's of Canadian NHL teams should have to spend near the cap. It is embarrassing that we let this owner walk all over our team because he is having a dispute with your city council, or whatever. Melnyk should stick to what he knows, being a legal drug dealer.

he has been better this year than any of the years he was with the leafs, His confidence is sky high and he seems to of embraced that newfound veteran presence angle that Stache keeps talking about. He's has found himself in a great situation here with Turris and is taking advantage of it, good for him.:)
