I am 100% on board with the concussion protocol.

I am against applying it differently based upon the player involved. If you're gonna take McDavid out for an extremely loose sign of him grabbing his face (AFTER HITTING HIS CHIN ON THE GROUND), then you sure as **** should do it for the hunderds of other instances where a player takes a direct hit to the head and is obviously woozy.

True. But in the end youd rather be too careful with McDavid (and take him off more for these things). Then have him treated as another player and not taken off as much and miss a time where you should have done it but didnt

I wonder if a way to bring down fighting or make it safer would be to have mandatory concussion tests after each fight. You have to sit for 5 mins in a box anyway, might as well have them spend that time in the room getting looked at. I think fights lead to a majority of the future brain damage

No, I don't want to be "too careful" because hockey is a contact sport. What they should be doing is applying a common sense level of protection for the players. This was a complete lack of such. It reminds me of the TSA making people take off their shoes and calling this "security". If this is the standard now then there should be at least a couple guys being taken off the bench in every single game.

Just because its a contact sport does not allow us just to turn a blind eye to all things safety. What was the damage done by removing McDavid? He missed a shift. I think they should find a way to administrator the test more efficiently so players miss max 1 shift. But slapping your chin against the ice will cause concussions at times and it did look pretty bad IMO. But I agree it should happen more

I havent however heard if this type of stuff actually prevents injuries with hard scientific data so your TSA comparison could be right (TSA really dont do much and plenty of studies have shown they catch nothing and only there to create illusion of safety). I could change my mind if the data said otherwsie. But for now Im happy assuming it does prevent further head injuries as the downside is a missed shift or 2. Not like player is taken out of game

The main reason spotters are being used now is because common sense wasn't being used by the team and the player themselves.

Teams had a chance to govern this themselves, but it wasn't done well enough. League really has no choice at this point, but to do it themselves.

Now whether or not it will be better I don't know. I do know the NHL is still in the denial stage about the lack of acceptance with concussions, so this could look good on them taking over control.

Didn't catch the game last night. Which line did McDavid primarily play against? I have to guess it was Koivu's. He would destroy Staal.

I think Koivu went up against RNH and his line, based on faceoff percentages. Koivu was 90% plus, while Nuge ended up around 11%.
Draisaitl wound up at 50% and McDavid only took a handful of draws, so based on that I don't they saw much of Koivu during 5on5 play.

I don't have a problem with McDavid being taken out. It's just odd that it seems to be such a rare occurrence if that's the standard for forcing someone to go through the protocol. I've seen way bigger blows to the head this season without the player being asked to leave.

Embarrassing how bad Nuge still is on the draw

Yeah. Underrated aspect of that loss. If nuge hadnt gone 17 percent on the night, Mclellan would of never been forced to put Letestu out there.

Our defensive "specialist" center cant even be out there for some of the most important draws. Ridiculous.

Good structured game for a back to back. Pouliot was a joke tonite. Killed all 2nd line play all nite long

Replace Poo with Poolparty. Get Davidson and Nurse back and you will have the strongest possible lineup. Maybe Panarin or Shelp too.
