lol, Mrazek let in the first two shots. It only went extra rounds because Detroit finally scored two goals. It had nothing to do with Howard vs. Mrazek.

You think buffalo practices the shootout all practice?

Have a goalie who isn't garbage at it. It's not a mystery. Miller has or had the most wins ever in it...enroth has stopped 17 out of 18 shots on it this year. That's why they're good at it.

It's also why games shouldn't be worth the same whether you win in regulation or in the shootout.

Look on the bright side, 17-7-8 is a lot better than 17-15. Hooray for the loser point! Because of that, Detroit is still a "top" team in the East :sarcasm:

Bad teams win shootouts good teams focus on other things at practice

Sounds like a sore loser kind of response. The shootout has been around for nearly 10 years. Teams have adapted to it, and every team practices it.

Your generalization is far from true. It's simpy just absurd.

Islanders 6-0 in the shootout, Hawks 4-1, Preds 4-1, Habs 4-1. Bad teams, huh? On the opposite end of the spectrum. Some teams at the bottom of the standings in the shootout: Flyers 0-5, Canes 0-3, Oilers 0-2.

Huh? They only have all those loser points because they suck at the shootout. In any other system, their record would be better right now. Or if they were even just average at shootouts.. they'd be 21-7-4 or thereabouts.

So I don't see how it makes sense to imply the loser point is propping up teams with a lot of shootout losses. The teams that consistently get the "winning point" in the shootout are the ones with inflated point totals. Nothing they've done to earn those specific points helps in the playoffs.

In most of these shootout losses the Wings have been the better team in regulation/OT. They've been much closer to having a better record than to being 'boosted' in any way by the shootout/loser-points.

That's what's frustrating too. They're losing a lot of games they should be winning because they can't score in regulation and then they just suck at shootouts and the other team steals the extra point.

Why can't Detroit win a shootout?

Because they haven't faced the Flyers in one.

That's where I feel for you guys. Mason really sucks at shootouts.

Here's what goes down when Steve Mason is your goalie in the shootout:
1/10 times he makes the save
2/10 times the shooter looses the puck
3/10 times the shooter hits the post, crossbar or misses the net
4/10 times the shooter scores

Well if thats the case, all teams that have Shootout wins would have a worse record if you automatically assume ties (OT) are losses...

Columbus benefits I guess since their 14-16-3 record, would ultimately be 14-19.

Fact is, the shootout has actually hurt Detroit most of any team currently, had they even been .500 they would be 1st in their division with a comfortable lead.
