Why are the Ducks so bad?

Hasn't this been a question over the last decade?

No?

The Ducks are heading into a rebuild, their best players got old, injured and bought out. There's no elite talent on the roster besides Gibson who isn't having a good season. The coaching hasn't been great and the young talent hasn't developed yet enough. So the roster is filled with good but not great players and prospects and mediocre players, and it is coached poorly. Also, there has been injuries this season but I wouldn't blame them that much.

Have you actually checked out their roster, and compared it to other teams? The Ducks roster sucks. It SUCKS.

When a wayyy-over-the-hill Getzlaf is your best forward, you are bound to be in trouble. Rakell isn't even close to his peak form.

There is not a single 1st line forward on the Ducks roster. Getzlaf is the only one who is even on the border between good 2nd liners and the worst of the worst 1st liners (he is #90 in points among forwards, and if you factor in his goal production, he has not been a 1st line NHL forward this season)

They have only 4 2nd liners: Getzlaf, Silfverberg, Rakell, Henrique. When you have zero 1st liners, and only 4 top6 calibre forwards, you're bound to be in trouble.

Josh Manson is nice, but come on, 6 points on the season? Not really screaming "top3" defenseman. With that kind of production you are maybe a bottom-pairing guy, 4th at best. He is #181 among D-men in scoring.

All in all, they are really just not that good. The roster sucks, actually. Gibson is the best player, by a country mile. Fowler is probably next. None of the forwards can be called "stars" by any stretch of the imagination.

The Ducks are doing pretty much exactly as predicted. Before the season I predicted that they would have 74 points (based solely on their roster), and currently they are on a 76,4-point-pace

Our young players haven't begun to produce yet, we're poorly coached, and our top offensive players from our window all regressed and no one has yet to come in and make up for their lost production.

The Ducks have zero game-changing players on their roster outside of maybe Gibson, so unless you're playing a trap/defensive style like the Islanders you aren't going to do anything. Their roster best suited to winning games games 2-1 and 3-2 while also combating the the trend that scoring is up league-wide.

But if their team were a house, it would be said to have "good bones" and I could see it renovated fairly quickly. This draft has some great options in the top-5 outside of Lafreniere, so if they could get one of those characters, and sneak another solid forward into their lineup (kinda like Vancouver did with JT Miller), they could be back in the playoffs within a season or two. Their team has good depth. They should maybe try to sign Taylor Hall in the offseason.

Getzlaf showed his age.
BM traded away any/all of our offense from the blue line.
Kase cant stay healthy
Ritchie cant avoid taking dumb penalties
Manson should be moved asap, before anyone realizes how over rated he is
Terry, Steel, Jones, Comtois have struggled producing, but i don't really fault them as there wasn't much around them to begin with.
Rakell is more of a complimentary winger, and isn't going to be a guy that really produces without talent around him... getzlaf declining hurt rakell.
Silf/Grant/Henrique have been the only forwards that have really played up to their potential.
Lindholm + Fowler + Gibson can only do soo much..

And final statement
BM didn't really make any of the young players earn a spot on the roster, instead they were thrown into an old broken down roster... Our flaws were pretty obvious in the offseason... and BM didn't do anything to improve them, if im not mistaken his big move was trading a 4th for deslauries /shrug.

I don't really blame eakins(like oiler fans might do in this thread), as he was set up to fail with this roster.
The team should have looked to start a rebuild after getting swept by the Sharks, but BM is an idiot and thought he could save the roster, but made it worse. I worry that we are guilty of doing a similar thing as the oilers did with their young players, forcing them into a shitty situation before they were ready to even join a good situation. h

We have decent propsects and we should be adding a couple more this offseason.
We need to fire BM, bring in a new GM and let him be in charge of a rebuild.
