Come to this conclusion before Puljujarvi has even played his 19 year old season? Must of thought the same about Nylader too didn't you?
Nylander has dominated every league he's played in. Puljujarvi dominated one WJC tournament and has been average everywhere else. Great comparison.

And in that WJC tournament he played with Aho and Laine, who both have proven to be significantly superior NHL talents. It's pretty easy to determine that the sole outlier is caused by that.

On the topic, I really hope that Puljujärvi will be better but the confidence isn't there.

Nylander draft season:
Half season in the SweHL scoring 1 G and 7Pts in 22 games, spends most of the year in the league below

Nylander draft +1
32 points in 37 AHL games (0.86ppg)

Nylander draft +2
Begins the season in the AHL

Puljujarvi draft season
13 goals and 28 points in the SM-Liiga, dominates WJC, 9pts in 10 playoff games, drafted 4th overall

Draft +1 season
Begins in the MHM, not ready for it yet. 28pts in 39 games in the AHL (0.71ppg)

Draft +2
Begins season in the AHL

Care to explain how one player has "dominated everywhere he has been" while the other was "average" at this point in their careers?

They're basically even, with one having a slightly higher PPG in their draft +1 but not playing in the NHL at all, while the other had a much better draft season.

So again, you must have thought Nylander was nothing more than a 3rd liner too right?

might as well gamble with a guy like Puljujarvi when picking that high than draft a 3rd line plug like Bennett.

The key difference being: Nylander was ready to play in that D+2 year but the Leafs were planning to suck so they didn't bother putting Nylander with a bunch of scrubs. Puljujarvi LOST his spot to a younger, tinier Kailer Yamamoto. Kailer just got drafted and he's shown more than Puljujarvi to earn an opening night spot.

D+1, Nylander had a better season in the SHL than nearly every Swedish forward you can think of which you conveniently left out in your D+1 evaluation of Nylander.

It's hilarious to read Oiler fans saying that they are being patient with Pulju then immediately call a 21 year old Bennett a bust.

The hypocrisy know's no bounds.

Bennett is the better player now and will be in the future.

This poll will be a landslide because HF hates Bennett even though 98% of the clowns who rip on him have never actually watched him play a game.

A guy that scores 20-30 points 3 years after being drafted 4th overall isn't a bust but it certainly isn't what he was drafted for. Look at Tkachuk on the same team to get an idea of where Sam Bennett should be at least by now.

If he doesn't improve this season, he's likely what he is, players don't just suddenly flip a switch after 3-4 bad years and become stars.

Tkachuk played with 2 excellent possession players and had PP time.
Bennett played with one of the worst possession players in the league and had no PP time.

Like I said, if people actually watched Bennett play they could see how good he is. But everyone just looks at the stat sheet rather than actual on-ice play. He didn't have 3-4 bad years, he had one statistically bad one last year, his rookie year was great and both his playoff runs have been fantastic. Also unlike the entire 2014 draft class who was drafted at center, he is the only player to actually play center which takes time to learn. Let me know when Draisaitl plays an enter season at center with no ice-time with McDavid and still put up 70+ points.

Look what Ryan Johanson has done, Bennett is literally following the exact same path as him (this upcoming season would coincide with Johanson's break out season).

The thing with Nylander was him showing clear flashes of high-end skill, which I honestly hasn't seen from Puljujärvi. Sure you can compare their stats all you want tho.

Not really a "key difference" when Puljujarvi hasn't had his draft +2 season yet. He very well may be ready for the NHL right now.

I left out Nylanders Sweden play because I was comparing their play at the AHL level which was quite similar. But sure include his play in Sweden if you want.

He forgot to mention

D+2 45 points in 38 AHL games, (as a 19 year old)
13 points in 22 NHL games - on the worst team in the league
11 points in 14 playoff games

Also forgot
2015 WJC 10 points in 7 games (not as good as Puljujarvi but still pretty good)

I've never been super convinced on Bennett. Pulju looked amazing a few years ago. He had a meh draft +1 season but I would take him pretty easily here.

Bennett vs Puljujarvi... that's like comparing Sean Couturier vs Jake Virtanen. Someone who doesn't know much about hockey might pick Virtanen, but that says more about the people voting than it does about the players.

Isn't Bennett gonna be a 70 point selke caliber of center?

And Gaudreau = McDavid?

Puljujarvi is a bust IMO. It's not like Bennett is all that great either though. Just a pathetic couple of players all in all.
