I started paying attention to hockey in the late 80's when we drafted Turgeon and through the Puppa/Malarchuk era, but I went with Alex because it was the Lafontaine-Mogilny combo that made me fall in love with the sport. Playing street hockey one of us was always one of them, and then of course there was NHL '93 where you could absolutely dominate with the Sabres. I often say that if he played during a different era, he might have scored a ton more in his career (same goes for guys like Bure and to a lesser extent Selanne). His prime ran right up against the beginning of the dead puck era and the evolution of the goalie position.
I respect Rico, but more for the stories, I never watched him play. And while Miller is arguably the greatest American born goalie of all time, unfortunately I remember him more for what that team wasn't able to accomplish than what he did. I'm not proud to admit that, but it is what it is.
