He's the leader of the team. They go where he says. Putting a C on anyone else is a farce and Pacioretty proved that. You put it on Weber, on Gallagher, on Drouin, everyone will know they are just a second in command chatting with referees and doing ceremonial faceoffs.

If you can't give it to Price, you don't have a captain. Simple as that.

I have a good buddy that is the biggest Sabres fan I know, well tbh he's the only Sabres fan I know. He tells me that ROR is a lazy player and will always let you down and he feels that both him and Duchene were a problem in Colorado and that the team would be better off without them. He has basically told me that O'Reilly is a center version of Pacioretty.

I'll still take him over Pacioretty.

Gallagher as captain would be a distraction to him IMO. Let Gallagher be Gallagher. I'd be OK with an A but not a C. Weber can handle it and it won't affect his game and added attention the fans/media would put on him.

Take time to assess what your core is. Are you going to just retool ? Is Price part of our core or were looking 4 years from now ? If so, sell him, and if he's not you have to sell Weber, Byron, Gallagher, Petry...

If they want to move forward with a quick retool, Gallagher needs to get it.

It also depends on what pick we get in the draft, drafting Dahlin means we probably can turn around and look at the really near future to compete.
