Just looked at his numbers...ouch. What happened to this guy?
Honestly nothing. Got hot for a bit as a youngster in Washington, caught lightning in a bottle with Vegas along with the rest of them, signed a big contract and then fell back off into a barely third pair D man.

Andrew Peeke, hasn't progressed and the cap hit for buyout is lower if the player is younger than 26 I believe
A 25yo RHD under $3m playing on a bad team. Someone would take a chance on him. He'd probably go to Boston, Florida or Tampa and become a great 2nd pair D because that's just what happens.

That would be a rough buyout. He has some signing bonuses the next 2 seasons.
Not buyout proof but not cheap either.

3,833,333 in 24/25
3,333,333 in 25/26
1,333,333 in 26/27
1,333,333 in 27/28

I’m not saying the Sharks won’t do it, just that it costs a bit more than a typical buyout like Campbell
Seems pretty normal to me. You save about half during the length of his contract, then stuck with a penalty for two years. They aren't all as good as Campbell.

The fact the cap is going up $4 million plus, I say no one consequential.
Still happening

1. Multiyear contracts of players who got waived like Campbell. There are 2 options…a buy out vs retention trade like Hayes. Givrn thr cap increase coming the latter might be used

2. Many RFAs will not get QO but they could be resigned. Arbitration awards will still be a concern.

He got caught with performance enhancement drugs that he probably doesn't use anymore. That's a reason.

Gaudreau and Huberdeau. When will GMs learn, don't over pay for wingers...especially the ones going into their 30s.
That's a horrifically bad take. I'd pay a lot for Gaudreau at 50%. Huberdeau is buyout proof and I think you could move him quite easily at 50% if you don't really want anything back.

It’s basically just the signing bonuses that are the problem. All signing bonuses must be paid and still count against the cap. If he didn’t have any it would be more manageable

Definitely one or two from the Habs from this group: Anderson/Dvorak/Armia

All three buyout combined:
24-25: $1,705,556 ($616,667 + $222,222 + $866,667)
25-26: $5,405,556 ($1,266,667 + $2,222,222 + $1,916,667)
26/27: $3,722,222
27-28: $1,722,222
28-29: $1,722,222
29-30: $1,722,222

Gallagher & Savard will stick around for a few more years.
Fans will gladly accept a young team so long as spots keep opening up for youngsters.

he's also 32 years old and has never been healthy enough to play a full season in the nhl.

Wouldn't be surprised if his injuries simply caught up with him.

Ryan Johansen will likely be bought out if the Avs can't dump him. He's abysmal. I am sure there will be analytics nerds defending his play but the eye tests shows he's slow, disengaged and is unable to make plays. He can score on the PP, that's about it.

Hamonic if Sens are out of cap because of his nmc. He should not be in an nhl lineup regularly

Ryan Johanssen for the Avs/Preds?

His analytics are no good. Nor is the eye test. You got this one correct. Buyout candidate for sure. He looks washed.

With just one year left on his deal next summer, the buyout won't be too painful or lengthy.
