Yes, it was extremely difficult to narrow it down to eleven, but I like my list. It's in alphabetical order.

Aretha Franklin
Bob Marley and the Wailers
The Clash
David Bowie
Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
Muddy Waters
Neil Young
Prince
Rolling Stones
Stevie Wonder

Sunny Etobicoke
Beatles
CCR
Daft Punk
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine
Rolling Stones
Sloan
Tool
Weird Al Yankovic

All over the place, pretty much, but that's a rough draft for 11 artists I've enjoyed.

Could probably come up with a list of my top 11 artists per genre if I really wanted to, but we'll stick with this for now.

For me the criteria was if I had to choose between owning the discography of one artist or another (assuming streaming didn't exist), the one I'd choose would get the higher spot. So it's a combination of both having great albums and a high quantity of good records.

Most of the artists on my list had some weak releases toward the end of their career, but I don't think that should detract from how good their prime stuff was. You can always just not listen to the bad albums.

1. R.E.M
2. Tori Amos
3. Bruce Springsteen
4. Rolling Stones
5. Kate Bush
6. PJ Harvey
7. Led Zeppelin
8. Prince
9. Beatles
10. U2
11. Elvis Presley

In no particular order…..

Black Sabbath/Ozzy
Soundgarden
Guns n Roses
Tool
White Zombie/Rob Zombie
Dimmu Borgir
Pearl Jam
Faith no More
Marilyn Manson
Behemoth
Pantera

I could make a list of 30 bands I love but I think this is the 11

ABBA
Arcade Fire
Bruce Springsteen
Eminem
J Cole
Lady Gaga
Kesha
The Killers (+ solo Brandon Flowers)
Macklemore
Radiohead
Taylor Swift

I tried to keep it to artists that have at least 2 albums that are on permanent rotation. For example I love Joni Mitchell's Blue, Paul Simon's Graceland and Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks but the rest of their discography is albums I only listen to a few songs from each.

I love those albums. Although you're referring to solo Simon, off topic when I became an adult I realized the singing on "Bridge over troubled water" is horrible and over the top. I know they were childhood friends but not being able to get along with the songwriter is a dumb career move.

So I understand that by "artists", we're talking about muscians or bands (otherwise, my favorite artists are Raoul Ruiz and Alain Robbe-Grillet).

So...

Mike Patton (and bands related)
Diamanda Galas
Frank Zappa (and bands related)
Alice Cooper
The Beatles (artists, plural, including their post-Beatles work)
John Zorn (and bands related)
Trey Spruance (and bands related)
John Frusciante
Serge Gainsbourg
Charles Mingus

I'd like to stuff my last spot with a lot of names.... Harry Nilsson, Jean Derome, Sun Ra, Fred Frith, Sonny Sharrock,...... I guess I'll go with Nina Simone.

Just wait until the thread title gets changed again, this time it'll be something like "what is your favorite board game to play while eating breakfast on a Tuesday?"

5/6 Yorke and Greenwood
7/8 Jagger and Richards
9 Brian Wilson
10 Neil Young
11 tie Bob Dylan,Carole King
