Montreal seems close to being on a rebuild. Canucks and Devils seem to be just starting the rebuild process. Leafs have done a very good job at rebuilding very quickly. The Jets seem to be well stocked ready for a breakout.

Yes, we just extended Price for 8 more years and we're right about to start a rebuild.

Just gotta wait for all those loyalty contracts to run out and then we can start the rebuild

It would be nice to take on other teams bad contracts for draft picks
Once we trade green we have to sign Larkin, mantha, and mrazek with that money

Boston appears to be rebuilding-on-the-fly and not doing a terrible job of it. Is Arizona considered set to start competing? My biggest question is LA, what is the outlook there?

Montreal is long overdue. Having players under 30 doesn't mean you have a team capable of winning.

Superstar goalie massively overpayed and btw not that young anymore.

Shipped off your best D prospect. No.1D 30+. Behind him the D isn't anything great.

You think I will forget to mention centers? I won't. There are only two ways getting them. Draft or trade/UFA. Your GM seems to avoid signing UFA centers, can't seem to trade for one let alone two, so drafting is more realistic. To draft a top 6 center you have to draft high.

There might be an option of a semi-rebuild in trades. Whom can you trade away while staying competitive?

The team needs a couple of years of misery. If you want it to be a contender sometime afterwards. The problem is neither the front office nor the fans obviously are ready for this.

So be it. As you got rid of all the Russians I have no problem with Montreal caught in limbo.

Edit: oh, and btw thanks a lot for Andrei. I will enjoy watching him starting this coming Thursday.

Looking to see if a new coach can light a spark. Another season with no playoffs and you will see a core player or two moved

WOW. We can make the playoffs with that lineup! Too bad we can never make it out of the 1st round unless the backup is playing. We score 1.8 goals/game in the playoffs and have won only one series against a starter(who played all games) in the playoffs. Maybe we get lucky and make the 2nd round! That is the goal, too make the playoffs and everything else is just cherry on top.

That's about the best case scenario for that roster, I agree. Theres just so many holes in that lineup and really only a few young players with nice upside/potential breakout years.

Montreal and Vancouver were the first two teams that came to mind.

Yeah, with a team that talent deprived, long overdue is a massive understatement.

Funny thing is, many of our fans have been drinking the kool aid for so long that they're convinced this is actually a competitive lineup. We're one Price injury away from being a basement dweller.

Yeah the Sergachev deal was a great trade of denial. Montreal is a very weak team beyond Weber and Price. With Buffalo and Toronto on the rise in their division, and Ottawa and Tampa remaining solid teams, I'd be worried.

Montreal needs to get that center somehow without jeopardizing their talent level. If they can do that they will remain competitive as long as they have Price being as good as he can be. They always have a chance with him. But whether they will really contend or not past that is another question. It's getting tougher with a lot of other teams looking really strong for the long haul. Montreal really needs to get some blue chip prospects. They most likely need to tank a year two to really become a beast in the east.
