Which player of the remaining core is the least likely to be traded due to their current market value?

  1. Phanuef - 6 more years at $7 mil
  2. Lupul - 3 more years at $5.25 mil
  3. Bozak - 3 more years at $4.2 mil
  4. Gardnier - 4 more years at $4.05 mil

Noone wants bozak, lupul is a good player when healthy. Phaneuf is a nice commodity, his contract term sucks, but he is a good piece any team would love to have

I would think Bozak would be the easiest to move, Lupul the toughest.

Out of that group I'd say currently the Leafs would like to move Lupul the most.

Current market value? Probably Lupul. He makes 5.25 million against the cap coming off a 20 point season (55 games) and he's 31 years old. Not to mention, he's making 6.75million in actualsalary this year..that's going to be a tough pill for anyone to swallow unless a team really likes him and needs the scoring help.

They need to try and pump his value through the season and try to flip him towards the deadline.

Best chance of deal Lupul is to take back a ~ similar contract in terms of $ and a player another team also would like to move.

Lupul for Vinny type trade or Lupul to Calgary for Smid.

Lupul is signed until 2017-18, with a cap hit of $5.25 M and that's a tough pill to swallow for an often injured player

Year Age Base Salary (Cash) Cap Hit
2013-14 Contract details by year 29 $5,250,000
2014-15 Contract details by year 30 $5,250,000
2015-16 Contract details by year 31 $5,250,000
2016-17 Contract details by year 32 $5,250,000
2017-18 Contract details by year 33 $5,250,000

As of today, Gardiner, Lupul, Phaneuf, Bozak.

Gardiner because they aren't looking to move him.
Lupul because he has no value being often injured, high cap hit.

Lupul would have been moved if they found a suitor

I might be one of the few that thinks he will do better next season (not close to old lupul days because phil is gone). Perhaps we will get an opportunity for a trade deadline move with some salary retained

The worst contract is Lupul's. He's no spring chicken. But I think he may have a good year. Assuming we open the season with no more trades. I can see him and Bozak meshing well together. They did in the last preaseason game with Leivo last year. And Lupul's best year of 67 points did come with Bozak at Center.

The Leafs are not actively attempting to trade Gardiner.

The other 3 are available but not easy to move.

A friend of a friend who knows this hot dog vendor over heard a car salesman say otherwise....:sarcasm:

Only put him there because he makes a fair coin and there was some debate if he was good or bad last year.

Lupul has less than no value. I see no reason to move him. Doesn't seem like a bad egg and could rehab his value if he stays healthy and gets top line minutes.

If that's the criteria then shouldn't Van Riemsdyk be up there as an option as well?

Based on everything I have read and heard our management team say.....

Dion: Not going to actively shop to see how he works with Babs

Gardiner: Will get every chance to prove his worth, if he doesn't fit we'll explore options

Bozak: will move first chance

Lupul: Stuck with until his last year

Polak: Deadline fodder

The One year Gang: Some will prove the fit the rest will be traded

James Riemer: traded if value is there

Kadri: do or die time

JVR: A keeper

Rielly: Untouchable

Robidas: Last year of his contract deadline fodder

Bernier: Keeper (pun intended)

Holland: One year audition

Marincin: Every chance will be given

Komorov: Stuck with him until his deal is done

Spaling: One year audition

Panik: One year audition

So I figure

JVR, Kadri, Rielly and Gardiner are the only ones firmly in our plans while all others are on trial.

I think it is safe to say Gards is going nowhere. The team still seems to have high hopes for him.

Lupul is almost untradeable at this point because of his injury issues.

Phaneuf may get traded but his contract and the belief that Babcock likes him may mean he stays around.

Bozak is definitely the most likely to be traded and I think there is a market for him if we are willing to accept just a second and/or B level prospect.
