Since Scuderi and Ference are the overwhelming top options, the people who voted for them...what would be the max contract (years + salary) you would offer and do you honestly think your offer would get them signed or is it more of a just "testing the waters" offer?

Rob Scuderi
Age: 34 (35 this December)
Shot: Left
2012/13: 48 GP, 1G / 11A / 12 PTS, 4 PIM, -6
Averaged 21:47 per game including 3:13 per game SH
2012/13 Salary: $3.4 million (this contract was signed 4 years ago)

Andrew Ference
Age: 34 (35 this next March)
Shot: Left
2012/13: 48 GP, 4G / 9A / 13 PTS, 35 PIM, +9
Averaged 19:29 per game including 2:13 per game SH
2012/13 Salary: $2.25 million (this contract was signed 3 years ago)

If we were to sign Ference or Scuderi I'd rather it be a 1-2 year deal for more money then a 3-4 year contract at a lower cap hit. 1-2 year deal at 4.5 would be great

I wouldn't go above $3M for Ference or $3.5M for Scuderi due to age.

Like I said earlier, with the cap going down and some teams up against the cap, it'll be interesting to see prices on some of these players.

as an LA resident I'd have to say avoid Scuderi. His play fell off a lot this year, and he's going to get too much money and too long of a term to make it worth it. Regehr and Matt Greene both outplayed him this season

Like most are saying no one on more than a 2 yr deal. Blum is 24...and IIRC he was a first round pick. There is talent there, Footer might be able to get the kid on track.

23rd overall, and was on a STACKED Nashville team. Probably an upgrade for us, because pretty much anything is

In my opinion, unless it's on a one-year deal, going after guys like Keith Ballard and Tom Gilbert is history repeating itself.

These guys will not hold up over time, and the current Hunwick/Zanon situation will happen all over again as soon as next off-season.

Ballard, Scuderi and Ference. I only want one of Ference or Scuderi and I would love to add Ballard as well.

I would also be happy if we could pick up the 2 ex-Vancouver Giants aka Jon Blum and Andrej Meszaros.

Blum is high reward low risk. Give him a one year and if he's bad he gets to be an overpaid AHL player. If he's good the Avs can retain his rights.

Ballard wants a short term deal, I hope we can bring him in.

I doubt he will be looking for a TW deal. If he signs with a team, it will likely be a one way contract.

Players on one way can still play in the AHL. If he's playing bad then put him on waivers (assuming he isn't exempt). Either someone takes him and pays him or the Avs overpay him for one season in the AHL. Still very low risks.
