He is currently at 171 and Jari Kurri is 3rd with 233 points (see chart below). Will he surpass Kurri? Bonus question: will he surpass Messier? That seems more unlikely.

Hed need 3 finals runs (62 points) at ppg or something like that to catch kurry. He is 30 years old only. He can definatly catch kurri but not messier in my opinion.

Random note: It's actually impressive how productive a playoff performer Doug Gilmour was. When you look at that list, you're talking about a bunch of all-time greats. Gilmour was a really good player in his day, but his name seems a bit out of place compared to guys who were top-5 players (or played on that Edmonton dynasty team).

If the Pens go on a deep run (finals) this year - i think he's good for at minimum another 20 points.
That leaves him another 10 years (playing till 40) to average 4 points a year to pass Kurri. I think at this point if he doesn't at least do that it'll be disappointing.

Messier is more difficult.

The first half of Crosby's career for playoffs if very special. He can simply become a compiler and likely still pass Kurri. But to pass Messier, he'll also need his second half to be very special, and that'll take a lot of things going his way - not the least of which is sustained team success.

I think he’ll settle 5th, maybe 4th. Not catching three guys who played together in a no-cap league with the highest scoring in NHL history won’t be held against him.

He'll probably catch Kurri but not Messier. What's impressive, though, is the context of his totals. He'll be the only player on that top 10 list that didn't play in the high-scoring 80s and 90s (and the only player in the top 5 who didn't ride shotgun with Gretzky).

Surpassing Kurri is realistic, so I went with that option. I don't think he'll get close to Messier.

I expect he'll finish #3 at least, but that's amazing considering the era he's played in. If he has a deep run he could be sitting at 190 points by age 30.

You also have to factor in that the Pens have made the playoffs for 12 straight seasons.

That's a great feat.

never really care for Playoff questions like this because they're too dependent on things outside of the player in questions control

passing Kurri is possible, but it's also very possible his team loses in the first round a bunch through no fault of his own(or even misses the Playoffs entirely) and he doesn't even pass Jagr

gut feeling is somewhere in the middle and he ends up around Anderson but who knows

pretty much no way he catches Messier though, way too far behind and he's 30 now

Has a decent shot at Kurri. No way even close to Messier.

Sooner or later the seasons will come when he and Malkin are no longer what they used to be and Pens will start missing the playoffs.

Difficult to argue that Crosby isn't one of the best playoff performers of all time...

1-You make it sound like that's not actually adding to his legacy. Or would he look more impressive as a player if he only made it 4 times in his career?

2-You might want to look at the guys at the top of the list and how many games they've played. It's not like Crosby has played 200 games and everyone else on the list has played 50.
