Hes broke amd cant afford a team, thats what happened. Stop overthinking things.

So broke that not long after getting turned down for an NHL franchise he spent the same amount of money (including debt acquisition) buying a steakhouse chain.

Bad timing to buy steakhouses. It's not the type of cuisine that would get by ok during a pandemic. Steakhouses are a dining experience as much as it is about quality of the food.

Both of those transactions were done before or in the early stages of pandemic where we didn’t know it was gonna last this long.

My point was Tilman Fertita doesn’t have the cash because of pandemic. And you only proved my point.

The dates of the stakehouse purchase articles are dated September 25, 2019. Almost 3 months before the virus was known about 6 months before the pandemic was declared.

Fertitta also met with the league shortly after buying the Rockets that was over 2 years before the pandemic hit. If him and the league couldn't agree a price point at that time, it won't get better after Covid is done.

The Fertitta showdown is what the NHL is going to have to deal with when a potential market already has an NBA team.

NHL is dealing with the NBA owner as the potential buyer as the NBA team would have the arena management agreement. If Fertitta has a number that he doesn't want to exceed for an NHL team because he doesn't believe in the economics of an NHL franchise, that's his perogative and thus the NHL won't go to Houston. Same would apply in Atlanta, and has applied with regards to Portland when Paul Allen was the owner of the Blazers.

Completely different situation than dealing with Vegas and Seattle. Could have been anyone so long as that entity was able to either build an arena on their own or work with the city on an arena.

But my point is he apparently had the cash when the whole subject of a Houston expansion team came up and didn’t pull the trigger. Instead he proceeded to shoot his own toes off.

Doesn’t make a bit of difference then or going forward now. He only wanted a team on the cheap.

Why wouldn't he? The man just spent half his networth on another sports team. 600M is about quarter of what he paid for Rockets but thats still alot of dough.

Peanuts to what OVG is spending in Seattle.

BTW …. I recall someone posting to BoH a link to an official transcript from the White House of a business lunch Fertitta attended with then President Trump and a few other billionaire types. This was during the height of the pandemic and Fertitta didn’t come off like a guy who was hurting..

Of course he isn't gonna be homeless anytime soon. Relatively speaking he is robably doing worse than other owners whose outside sports businesses do not involve food and hospitaliy.
