I posted this a few years back, but it's sort of peripheral to this discussion.
In the 1971-72 Playoffs, the Black Hawks bounced the Penguins out so easily that they found time to give their second, and then their third goaltender some work:
5 Apr 1972: Chicago (Tony Esposito) 3, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 1.
6 Apr 1972: Chicago (Tony Esposito) 3, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 2.
8 Apr 1972: Chicago (Gary Smith) 2, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 0.
9 Apr 1972: Chicago (Gerry Desjardins) 6, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 5; 0:12 OT.
Just when Pittsburgh thought they had a chance to avoid the sweep, it was over before they knew it.
The Hawks then proceeded to blow four straight to the New York Rangers to exit the Stanley cup competition.
