Toews and Panarin.

He's been told by the management that the Tank is on, and to play accordingly. So this is how Kane plays when he's not even trying.

Losing Panarin isn't as big a deal as some here think. Schmaltz has played almost exclusively with Kane, and Schmaltz is at around a 60pt pace with solid defense. So it's not like Kane's playing with Versteeg and Handzus again.

Truth be told, I think he's given up for this season. He lasted longer than any of our other core guys, but it's hard to give it your all, just to inevitably see your AHL caliber goalie (remember Crow's been out for a while now) give up the lead with a soft goal game in and game out. Shit's deflating.

He was just at 53 points in 53 games a week ago. These kind of threads always pop up at a very convenient time. A week ago nobody was questioning his 32 goal 82 point pace and now all the sudden something is wrong? He could very well be back to his PPG pace in the next week or two.

Aside from no Panarin and lack of depth which helped him in the past, there's also the fact that he's 29 and played close to 1,000 NHL games so he's likely on the down swing of his prime. I'd love a player thats "under performing" by putting up close to a PPG in the back end of his prime.

Kane was the last one of the core to give up. This team is headed for bottom 5, hoping to end up with Dahlin or Zadina.

He was dangling round Ducks D a lot of last night he just kept trying to do too much and ran out of room. I would say it’s a chemistry with linemates thing he’s certainly not lost a step.

For even the best players in the league to get 100 points in a season, a lot of things have to go right. You need great chemistry with your linemates, secondary threats on your team, momentum, etc... Those things aren't nearly as strong this year with the Hawks and Kane. His numbers have gone back into the PPG tier they were at 3 years ago. He's still having a great season, but his supporting cast is the worst its been in years.

I was thinking that may have been a bit of it. He was chugging along at roughly PPG or above for most of the year and only recently has taken a bit of a dive in production.

Also, the OP combining the previous two years is misleading. '16 was a major outlier for Kane. He's never scored more than last year's 89 points in another season and his only other year on pace for over 90 was the lockout shortened year. In general he's been a PPG or slightly above player most years, which is what he was for most of the season

Never understood the trade of Panarin. He clearly is a better player and as a center his value was much greater. Kane can't carry a line, very few can. He will be a good player but the effort to stay on top is not in the cards with out a really good center. But he will still cash those pay checks.

The obvious answer is Panarin. Kane had someone who could actually finish off his great plays, had chemistry with him, and could setup Kane for goals as well. Take that away and you have Kane producing how he normally would. Still an amazing player

The chemistry he had with Panarin was pretty special. Still can't believe they traded him...you don't give that up when you find that kind of chemistry. And they're both young too, could've been together tearing up the league for years. They were like the Sedins except the being twins part - they could basically play keep away with each other for entire shifts.
