Seriously? I'd probably take Tkachuk over anybody in this draft. He's a rare breed of player in today's NHL, even if his production is a bit lacking this year.
I get what you are saying but the Flames highest pick ever was 4th (Sam Bennett). They have picked at 6 numerous times. Even in a risky draft year, the prospect of picking first for the first time ever has to be appealing.

This ain't the year to covet #1. That's next year and 2023. Wright and Bedard are franchise-caliber players teams can only dream of getting lucky for

This. I wouldn't trade too much of value (that the other team would reasonably accept) for this year's 1st overall. Next year's would be a different story.

Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko.
Horvat, Boeser, and Miller are debatable. I’ve heard Owen Power might not be a legit #1 (like the Erik Johnson pick), so I could see the pick having more risk than just keeping Horvat/Boeser/Miller. I’d trade them for it but it might not be the wise move.

Surprised to see so many names on peoples lists. I think I’d trade any single one. Then I’d add a free agent. I’m really high on Dach but even he has injury concerns with his wrist.

Not in a draft that doesn't have a true 1st overall caliber talent.

From the Jackets I'd put everyone on the table except Bjorkstrand, and Werenski and Jones if they can be extended.

McDavid and Draisaitl obviously. Nurse due to positional need and prospect wise probably not Broberg, Bouchard or Holloway. Not saying they project as better prospects but they are further along in development and I’m ready to see the Oil consistent in making the playoffs and becoming a contender.

Last was Atlanta and Stefan in 99?

Before that I have no idea.

Nah, Florida and Pittsburgh in the early 2000s. Might've been the Fleury pick?

The overall point of the thread isn't really a proposal to acquire 1st, which is why it's not on the trade board. It's to highlight how much worse the top tier of this draft is compared to the majority of drafts.

Reading some of the names, this draft must be the worst of the past 40 years!

Nylander?? He is a good player, but not really worth a 1st OA.

Nylander is borderline. I think it depends on the team. To a division rival, probably not. Across the continent, probably.

Sandin would be the 3rd player I wouldn't trade for 1 OA.

I wouldn't trade for 1st overall at all. Trading for the #1 pick is going to take a significant overpayment, it always does.

I'd trade everybody from Chicago.

Dach is the only one I even had to think about. But yeah, he is gone.

This feels like one of those drafts where the best player is drafted in the 2nd round or something
