What would you consider the Leafs to be in their current state?

Nobody except the losing team and its fans considers Game 7 a "coin flip". You don't see the Stanley Cup Champions saying "well we needed a Game 7 in one of those rounds, so that is basically the same as losing that Series, so we aren't really the best, just lucky"

Of course variance exists, but if you are assessing the Leafs from when they first made the Playoffs to now, I don't know how you can say a 40 % win percentage in the post-season means they have just been a flat out unlucky team.

That being said, what happened five years ago doesn't necessarily matter for what happens this postseason as a lot changes over that timeframe, so it could be different.

Denying their team's real issues and learn to deal with them, instead, they think their regular season success can carry over.
