Thinking if we wanted to draft Veleno, but don't want to pick him around 5 or 6, instead of trading up we could trade a number of our picks in this years draft to take him in the 15-20 range, while still taking our LHD with our pick.

We have avail.

MTL 2nd
CHI 2nd
TOR 2nd
WAS 2nd

1 3rd, 3 4ths, 2 5ths

What do you think it takes at the draft to jump into the 15-20 and draft Veleno?

it'd probably take something like 3 2nds (mtl, chi and one of tor/wsh) for a 1st in the 15-20 range and a 4th

We select like **** in the late rounds so it’s not worth giving up the seconds we’ve collected to acquire a late pick. If they can move us up more, maybe.

Not interested in moving the plethora of picks for a late first. There's a talent drop off this year and given where a couple of our seconds will be, I'm not sure it's worth it.

I'd rather revisit moving Pacioretty. More teams can be brought into the conversation. Montreal won't get as much as they might have in February, but it should still be a good return and should include a first (lottery protected).

The max amount of 2nd rounders I would trade to move up is 2.
There's a lot of good players available in the 2nd rounder, trading more than two of our 2nd rounders would be a dumb decision

I would trade 2 of our 2nd rd picks and add 1 of our 4th to get Veleno
2-2nd and a 4th for Veleno.
Would consider CHI 2ND,TOR,2ND and WAS 2ND for Veleno and a 3RD.

It would take trading Pacioretty to the Islanders as part of a package deal to get one of the Islanders two 1st round picks along with other pieces from the Islanders.

I'd rather not trade up unless someone is stupidly falling. Only other way we get a 1st is through a Pacioretty trade.

Depending on who's available any where from say #11-#17 overall just using that as an example, I can see Detroit looking to do the exact same thing we can do the Vegas 2018 1st #29 on top of either Detroit or Ottawa's 2nd round pick either #35 or #36 overall and probably include AA in as well that hopefully gets us into the #11-#15 overall maybe Dobson is still available then.

Both the flyers 1st and blues first are likely to be in that range and I wouldn't move either for a package of 2nds. Flyers dont need quantity anymore, and would prefer quality at this stage. Count us out.

I can see a scenario where Montreal trades down with the NYI for NYI's two 1st rounders ( their own and Calgary's). Like if montreal has 4th overall they trade down to 7 or 8 and get pick 12 or 13 so they can draft a very good dman and one of the top centers.

What does that do for the Islanders? Why would they trade up to #4? To grab one of the top forwards who are not centers in the case Tavares bolts? It's a strong d-man draft, they would likely do exactly as you plan for Montreal to do with those 2 1sts.

The odds of you getting around 15 Or less for two 2nds is basically zero.

A 1st (12th OA) to move down 3 spots?
Good luck.

I'd be open to one of NYR's later 1sts + something for Galchenyuk. Not sure what the plus would be.

You do understand that's the equivalent of saying Mtl would be open to its earliest 2nd rd pick and a little plus for Buchnevich right? (Either fanbases and GM don't do it.)

I don't think you can put it that way. Moving down 3 spots is pretty significant if you are in the top 5. Knights and Nucks had a trade with the Nucks receiving a 2nd just to move down 1 spot.
Yeh but I don't ever remember a team trading a 1st to trade down a couple spots.
The Leafs traded conditional 2nd and 3rd to move down from 7 to 5 in 2005.
I expect you'd be looking at a similar deal.

If you wanted a good 1st (8-12) then just trade Patches straight up for it and be done with it.

I don't think there's anything in NYR that we would want for Galchenyuk and you would be willing to give up. Not very good trading partners.
