I don't think anyone deals for Tkachuk right now unless they have their own young high end problem child. If a deal for Tkachuk is made, I think it's at the next draft, and that's where we should be looking to have more assets by dealing off some guys throughout this year (the various UFAs, maybe Bert, etc. Think something along the lines of this year's Cossa deal but insert Tkachuk for Cossa. If Vrana was healthy and signed for a bit more term, maybe a deal could have been made to work around that but...yeah. Vrana's injury puts a damper on that stuff.
Bettman gets a lock of flak but I think he values the cap/floor because it does force teams to step up and spend to a certain level. They might still be bad, but they're at least not blatant feeder clubs for the teams that will spend. And I think that helps the overall health of the league. It also exposes how straight up bad some GMs are.
