Inspired by the thread asking whether Messier is an Oiler or a Ranger. Or for that matter a Canuck :amazed:

We also have talked a bit about Chelios on the other thread so I'll bring up some new names.

Ron Francis
Lanny McDonald
Ed Belfour
Doug Gilmour
Pat Lafontaine
Mark Recchi
Adam Oates
Frank Mahovlich
Brad Park

Ron Francis - Hartford
Lanny McDonald - Calgary
Ed Belfour - Dallas
Doug Gilmour - Toronto
Pat Lafontaine - Buffalo
Mark Recchi - Philadelphia
Adam Oates - The very definition of a Journeyman

My opinion as a young-ish European fan who didn't get to see most of these guys in their prime.

Very instinct-based with some of those and very colored by the fact that 1992 ish is when I first got into the NHL.

keeping in mind that I never saw Mahovlich or Park, and I am too young to remember much on McDonald.

Brad Park - Rangers

I'm only really attached to Park, Mahovlich, Gilmour and Recchi being with those teams. The other five guys are practically a coin flip.

depends on how old you are and where you live. if i walked down the street here in toronto with that list, i bet more than half the people i asked would call all the guys on that list who played here leafs, even francis. that's just how this city thinks.

for me, lanny is a flame, but that's because i was too young to have seen him in any other uniform and because, growing up in vancouver, i saw an awful lot of him as a flame.

my answers:

Ron Francis whalers/canes
Lanny McDonald flames
Ed Belfour stars
Doug Gilmour leafs
Pat Lafontaine sabres
Mark Recchi my gut says penguins, which seems strange to my brain
Adam Oates blues
Frank Mahovlich leafs
Brad Park brain says rangers, gut says bruins

What about Marian Hossa guys?

A Senator for sure. We'll see how long he stays on Chicago though. Other than that his Thrasher/Pen/Red Wing career wasn't very long.

I find it interesting that every poster has put Lafontaine as a Sabre rather than an Islander. 8 years as an Islander compared to 6 as a Sabre.

I don't necessarily disagree though, after all his best season by far was as a Sabre and he became kind of a folk hero in Buffalo. La-la-la-la-fontaine. Have to admit, he never had that following in Long Island

Not looking at anyone else's posts... and I am 35 and watched hockey since the mid 80's....

Ron Francis - Still Hartford, he was their franchise player.
Lanny McDonald - Calgary easily
Ed Belfour - Still Chicago over Dallas for me
Doug Gilmour - Leafs, though Calgary was an option
Pat Lafontaine - Islanders
Mark Recchi - For some reason I still think Penguins
Adam Oates - St. Louis with Hull
Frank Mahovlich - Leafs
Brad Park - Rangers

Add (some of these are not obvious, though may seem so to some, might depend on when you started to watch hockey) I can see my bias is strongly toward the players first teams.
