What about Doug Weight and Scotty Niedermeyer?

An Oiler and a Devil for sure respectively

Glen Wesley - Bruin, for some reason
Rob Blake - King
Rod Brind'Amour - Flyer
Dave Andreychuk - Sabre for sure
Alexei Yashin - regular holdout? Okay fine, Sens
Joe Murphy - definition of a journeyman, but I guess an Oiler
Brett Hull - Blue
Patrick Roy - very, very tough, but would have to lean on a Hab
Curtis Joesph - Maple Leaf

Here's who came to my mind first for each team...

Ron Francis - Carolina
Lanny McDonald - Calgary
Ed Belfour - Toronto
Doug Gilmour - Toronto
Pat Lafontaine - Islanders
Mark Recchi - Penguins
Adam Oates - Blues
Frank Mahovlich - Toronto
Brad Park - Rangers

But that doesn't necessarily mean I think they should remembered there.

I know it hurts, but I saw his whole career and I think of him as a King over an Av even if he won the Cup in Denver.

Yea, I think those are two different questions, which team you naturally associate them with, and which team they gave the most career value to. Then you could also factor in how much they stick out among other players in franchise history, and it's a tough question.

I think the fact that most of my early NHL memories involve playing NHL '94 definitely influences my picks.

My natural inclination:

Ron Francis - Pittsburgh
Lanny McDonald - Flames
Ed Belfour - Chicago
Doug Gilmour - Leafs
Pat Lafontaine - Buffalo
Mark Recchi - Flyers
Adam Oates - Bruins
Frank Mahovlich - Leafs
Brad Park - Bruins
Glen Wesley - Carolina
Rob Blake - L.A.
Rod Brind'Amour - Carolina
Dave Andreychuk - Toronto
Alexei Yashin - Ottawa
Joe Murphy - Chicago
Brett Hull - St.Louis
Patrick Roy - Montreal
Curtis Joseph - St.Louis
Marian Hossa - Ottawa
Scott Niedermayer - New Jersey
Doug Weight - Edmonton

How will Chris Pronger be remembered to everyone else? I was still in grade school when he was there, but I'll always think of him as a St Louis man.

The results below are what I got from doing this word-association style.

In some cases I know I'm off base, such as Recchi (Bruins, because he's still playing there) or Hull or Andreychuk. But those are the uniforms I think of them wearing when the image first pops into my mind.

Ron Francis - Whalers
Lanny McDonald - Flames
Ed Belfour - Hawks
Doug Gilmour - Leafs
Pat Lafontaine - Islanders
Mark Recchi - Bruins
Adam Oates - Bruins
Frank Mahovlich - Leafs
Brad Park - Bruins
Glen Wesley - Hurricanes
Rob Blake - Kings
Rod Brind'Amour - Hurricanes
Dave Andreychuk - Leafs
Alexei Yashin - Senators
Joe Murphy - Wings
Brett Hull - Wings
Patrick Roy - Canadiens
Curtis Joesph - Blues

I'm kinda surprised by the Oates as a bruin reply by many, not that I think it's totally wrong, just kinda surprised.

He had many of his best years with the B's, but I always think Blues when discussing Oates for some reason.

Inspired by the thread asking whether Messier is an Oiler or a Ranger. Or for that matter a Canuck :amazed:

We also have talked a bit about Chelios on the other thread so I'll bring up some new names.

Ron Francis - Hartford
Lanny McDonald - Calgary
Ed Belfour - Chicago
Doug Gilmour - Toronto
Pat Lafontaine - Buffalo
Mark Recchi - Philly
Adam Oates - St. Louis
Frank Mahovlich - Montreal
Brad Park - Boston

Mark Messier - Edmondton, NY, don't care, but definitely not a Canuck

Coffey might be the hardest one for me. I know he was dominant with the Oilers but I think I might associate him more as a Red Wing. One of my favorite things to do is make old rosters for NHL video games and 2 of my favorite years to do are 1992-93 and 1995-96. Then again I might associate him with Philadelphia as well because that was the period from 95-98 I became a massive, gigantic hockey fan and since Eric Lindros was my favorite non-goalie I can just as easily associate Coffey with the Flyers.

Paul Coffey for me is defined by not having a team. He played for damn near everyone.

I guess I think of him as an Oiler before anything else, but wow... pick a team man.
