It was an honest question - I don't follow football so I didn't know how it was referred to in popular consciousness.Well, it's known as The Helmet Catch.

That’s my thinking, but it probably only applies to Canadians and if we’re just talking NHL it doesn’t count.I would think that "the Goal" for Canadians would be Mr. Paul Henderson's tally, no?

It's funny how many times someone has tried to make "The Goal" or "The Save" stick, to absolutely no avail.
It's the "Stop trying to make fetch happen" of hockey. In reality, no there is not a single goal or save that overshadows everything else in hockey history. It's kind of silly to think there ever would be anything like that.
...Though I'll argue that you cannot think of many "Illegal stick" calls.
On the flipside, there's about 60 games in a game. Always has been. Meanwhile, "Illegal Stick" calls basically don't exist anymore and were definitely fewer and far between than Saves or even Goals.
What's the Slash? Hextall on Chelios?Exactly. This is why it's easier for people to know what you mean when you say "No Goal" or "Too Many Men" or "The Guarantee" or "The Slash". Just about every single fan would instantly know which play you're talking about.
Trying to make something "The Goal" is futile. There would be dozens of candidates.
Not here. Alain Coté's called-off goal is litterally folk-lore.

You're probably thinking of Hextall on Nilsson. What's the Slash? Hextall on Chelios?
The deke.
We named a form of it after him.
Okay, so far I am seeing that the Stevens on Lindros play is "The Hit". I tend to agree. All due respect to Robinson on Doernhoefer. I think the Stevens one is more famous.
Agree on some of the other already labelled tag lines. "No Goal", "Too Many Men", "The Guarantee", "The Illegal stick", "The Slash".
Nothing jumps out as "The Save" or "The Goal". A lot to choose from. I agree that Crosby's goal is already coined "The Golden Goal" and we leave it at that. No need to explanation on that one. Overtime vs. your rivals, on home ice, with a pass from the beloved Iginla and arguably scored by a guy who was the best player in the NHL at the time. It has its well deserved tag line.
Henderson's goal or Orr's goal would be probably the two most famous. None of them really got that consensus of being "the" goal.
.
Eruzione's goal is likely the most famous of all time.

The Drive. The Catch. The Helmet Catch. 28-3. Tuck rule game. The Interception. Every football fan can tell you the meaning behind each.
Eh....no goal is the only one for Hockey. Golden goal maybe?
Baseball...Mr. November. Um...Buckner. Shot heard around the world. Four nights in October?
Yeah, it goes on in baseball. Bloody sock game, Steve Bartman, or even saying the name Carlton Fisk and we all know what that is about.
Or even Bucky Dent
