Assuming prospects meet reasonable expectations, and assuming your team doesn't make any huge trades, what does your team look like ~5 years from now?

Might be fun to look back in a couple of years just to see how wrong I was. There will obviously be players that are added via trade and free agency, but I won't try to predict those.

You guys are really underestimating how many things can change in a window like that, a lot can happen in 5 years. You would be lucky to have half of the same people on your roster as you do today.

It really depends what happens with the expansion draft. That is going to have a big affect on a lot of things across the league.

The Oilers' future is so bright, we gotta wear shades...

Or McDavid will break his leg, McClellan will quit, Chiarelli will model his management style after Lowe and Tambellini, and the team will miss the playoffs another 10 years...

I got Dumba being taken in the expansion draft.

Obviously things are fluid, and the roster won't look exactly like this, but I am definitely excited for the future. We have some nice prospects in the pipeline after a few years where we didn't have much, and there is plenty of young talent on the big club.

Flames, I'll say five years

Gaudreau - Monahan - X
Tkachuk - Bennett - Tuulola (long shot)
Ferland - Jankowski - Pribyl (long shot)
X - Dube - X

Brodie - Hamilton
Giordano - Andersson
Kylington - Hickey
Fox

Gilles
Parsons

Really need to work on our right side haha. Defense is solid though. Giordano might be more of a #5 PP specialist though at that point. Or a stay at home #4. Could really go either way.

Mangiapane, Shinkaruk, and Klimchuk should probably have spots but whatever

Yeah I think the Pens are pretty intriguing, a lot like the Hawks and the Oilers.

They have a ton tied up in Kessel 6.8, Crosby 8.7, Malkin 9.5, Letang 7.25, Maatta 4.0 past the next five seasons. Hagalin also has two more years at 4.0.

Hornqvist is getting a raise, plus all the younger guys will get raises going coming off their initial contracts. Schultz is getting a HUGE raise next year.

Doubt they can afford to re-sign Hornqvist without moving out a young guy or two.

Pens also have Daley, Kunitz and MAF (most likely), along with the retention on Scuderi coming off the books this summer. Fehr is making 2m and will likely be moved as he has been a routine healthy scratch as well.

Dumo needs a new deal, but he won't get paid huge money since he doesn't put up big numbers. Probably figure 9-9.5m to sign him and Schultz.

Hagelin can potentially be replaced internally by Archibald if they need to free up more cap space. It's likely Hagelin or Maatta won't be on the books next year due to a trade or being lost to the expansion draft.

All said, Pens are in a good spot with their cap for the first time in awhile with their farm paying such big dividends and so many big money contracts coming off their cap this summer.
