He will be known as one of the best Russian players of all time IMO could be #1

Ovechkin is the most lethal goal-scorer, however, overall player it's Malkin without a doubt competing with Fedorov. He will have a better PPG than Ovechkin and will go down as one of the most lethal playoff performers ever

Gary's policy of pushing his poster boy will be engraved in Malkin's legacy.

It's not idiotic. Of course it's a factor. I'm not saying it should be, but it is... when you're talking about historical 'legacy' in a North American league, North American players get preference more often than not. It's why Crosby gets MVP this year while Malkin led the team in playoff scoring. It's why Brodeur/Roy are considered the greatest goalie of all time and it has to be a hot-take to consider Hasek for that title.

Btw, where was Karlsson ranked on that top 100 list? He gets credit for being an amazing player, just like Malkin does, sure. But when it comes down to determining a players historical significance/legacy, which in itself is stupid/ subjective a lot of the time, there will always be a bias for North Americans.

I wish we could see a list like the top 100 made by a European panel and see how many of the character/leader North Americans are left off for players who had significantly more talent.

Yea Tretiak for example gets forgotten easily, but everyone's keen on remembering to bring up Hull when Ovechkin is being discussed.

Might also be a general glorification of past memories kinda thing though.
