Since I grok too few albums, the list is going to be short. Singles and tracks? Oh, I have a lot of those.

Austra - Spellwork (2010)

And that's it. The list of albums that I actually enjoy is very small.

Joni Mitchell-Hijera

Love both albums by Warpaint. New one is out end of September I believe.

Xenia Rubinos-Black Terry Cat, might be the album of this year.

Janet Jackson-Control/Rhythm Nation 1814

tune yards with Whokill.

Bjork and St. Vincent have put out some wonderful albums.

Andreya Triana who has sang on Bonobo's Black Sands has put out some cool solo music.

Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack

Martha and The Vandellas have some great work

For all you guitar fans, check out Sister Rosetta Tharpe's complete recordings (she was like Elvis and Ray Charles before they were around).

The Glamorous Life by Sheila E

Cate Le Bon is an up and comer. Her album Crab Day should be on a best of 2016.

Finally there's a lady from Japan Shina Ringo who is pretty amazing. She has a very 90s alternative rock sound but sometimes goes noisy Sonic Youth style, sometimes Chili Peppers funky, and sometimes big band. From the late 2000s until the early 2010s, I was consistently listening to her material along with her band the Tokyo Jihen (Tokyo Incidents).

Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor
Kate Bush - The Whole Story
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Enya - Paint the Sky With Stars

I like a lot of individual songs by female artists but, beyond Kate Bush and that Confessions CD by Madonna and a collection of favorites by Enya, there's really not many independently performing female musicians that I could rightfully say are among my favorites.

I'd like to give HM though to Stevie Nicks, Cher, and Annie Lennox.

It's really difficult to read this thread with people posting the album cover image, it clutters things up too much. How hard is it to type out the album name and artist?

Melissa Etheridge - My Little Secret
Enya - The Celts and Amarantine
Amanda Marshall - Tuesday's Child
Tegan & Sara - If It Was You
Stacy Wilde - Tear Down The Sky

Although I do have more songs by male artists, I think it's still pretty close to even, especially considering how saturated some of my favourite types of music (rock, alternative, etc) are, but somehow I still have very few albums by those female artists.

It'd probably be a much longer list if it was for bands/groups that had both male and female artists (bands like Fleetwood Mac or The Cranberries).

Is that man doing to that poor animal what it looks like he is? The kid in the back is even so disturbed by it that he's covering his eyes.

(I'm sorry if I've forever ruined the way that you look at that album cover)

Toni Childs' "Union." It's likely nobody hear has heard it, which is a shame because it's a really good album. She's got a great voice and I believe she played several of the instruments herself.

This ought to link to a playlist of the album:

Edit: That playlist is missing the best song, that's dumb.

That song is from her 1991 album "House of Hope". Union was released in 1988, and I agree that it's a great album.

FWIW I had House of Hope on my list earlier in the thread. I preferred it to Union, but I can see the inverse.
