Soupy is is a backup, that's what he is, he's a very very good backup but he IS a backup he can't start
You may be correct but there are numerous examples of goalies who were behind a strong #1 like Quick who ended up as #1's ... but better that then run out a guy who can never win da big game

At his age there is Johnny Bower, and Tim Thomas that's it and that was about 60 years apart

Considering the lowest we can finish at this point would be a tie for 18th and the first drawing odds would put our assigned team to be determined spot at 7 or 8 which equals either 1 or 1.5 % odds for the first draw , there seems to be a whole lot of wishful thinking .The much more likely scenario of the first three picks going to bottom seven teams would mean no 1st this year , we also don't have a 3rd our own 5th or our own 7th but we do have other teams picks in the 5th and 7th .Not holding my breath for much of a draft .

With this weird 24 team play-in format, it seems like the Leafs have okay odds at retaining their first round pick via a couple of different ways if things don't work out on the ice.
Not sure where you learned math but the best we can hope for is either the 7th or 8th placeholder position , thats either a 1.5 or 1 % chance which equals either 2 or 3 balls on a 200 ball drum . not what most would consider OK odds .The Habs and Hawks have a 1% odds of winning the cup perhaps they are an OK bet ?

Eh, goalies are strange.

Campbell is 27.

Active goalies that didn't become full time starters until 27 or later:

M.Koskinen (30)
M.Smith (29)
C.Anderson (28)
D.Kuemper (28)
C.Schneider (28)
C.Talbot (28)
J.Markstrom (28)
P.Grubauer (28)
D.Rittich (27)
B.Bishop (27)
P.Rinne (27)

He was also poorly managed by the Stars. Hopefully he can be a decent back up until Woll or Scott are ready. Issue is it will likely take them 2 or more years to be ready if they even turn into something.

Assuming Toronto doesn't win the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick, if they end up defeating Columbus in the play in round that means they will have officially made the playoffs and it guarantees their 2020 1st round pick not ending up in the top 10. Plus that also guarantees they keep their 2021 1st round pick, so it doesn't become another situation where Carolina gets it without any conditions the way Boston had their 2010 and 2011 1st round picks.

Some notes..

At #1; I draft Lafreniere and seek to trade Marner for a package, including RHD, hope to sign Pietrangelo..
At #2; I probably move down a spot or two, and then select the top forward left. I trade Marner for a package including RHD, hope to sign Pietrangelo.
At #3, I select the top forward, trade Marner for a package, including RHD, and hope to sign Pietrangelo.

I've posted these trades in the Trade board, where I also ended up with the #10 overall pick, and selected Perfetti there, which is about where he's being rated now.
You’re funny

No, if 1st overall ends up going to any placeholder team our odds of picking 1st are 1:8 or 12.5%. We currently have just over a 3% chance of 1st overall, this number will end up being refined to either 0% or 12.5% on June 26th.

Best possible scenario...
All 3 picks go to teams that are in the play in round, EVERYONE looses their mind and the board starts talking about loosing on purpose.
GIVE ME THE CHAOS!

But he doesn't because the Leafs don't need a superstar on defense they just need a good piece, Manson, Larsson, Savard, maybe Risto, the type of D they need they can get without breaking up the core
If they go for those pieces, they'll be right back to having the same problem next year.
