Not for 2 million dollars. Between him, Ott, Jurco, Miller, and Glenny we are currently spending over 6 .5 million on the bottom line. Not to mention the mess we've probably gotten in with the Abby and Helm contracts.

So they are averaging 1.5 mil between 5 bottom line-type players? That seems fine, right? Only 3 of those guys are playing at a time (typically).

The rink looked pretty packed, just with the wrong fans.

Once the game started and the Leafs fans immediately started a "Go Leafs go" chant, I knew that it was going to be a long game.

The Wings have done this to other fan bases for years. Kinda rough the shoe will be firmly on the other foot with those pesky Leafs.

Why on earth are you ranting about fourth line players when this team has absolutely zero elite talent? Is it because you thought no one would take issue with it? This team needs two forwards who are substantially better than anyone on our team and two defensemen who are substantially better than Green and DDK. Rearranging fourth line deck chairs isn't going to move the needle.

It's the canary in the coal mine. It's indicative of the larger problem. Bad contracts to mediocre players.

Yeah, I did the math and thought the same. 1.625 million a 4th liner isn't bad. Least of our worries, really.

When you're completely crunched against the cap, 500K here and there adds up. But I agree, it's a fairly minor complaint given the larger issues at play.

The term to Glendening is the part I puke at. Like we're worried he was suddenly going to start commanding $3 million or something... Well, on second thought, if Abby can lock in at 4.25 over 7 years, I guess that's a legitimate fear.

No single contract is completely sinking the cap structure, but when you add them together, oh boy.

No, him being paid $2M is another reason not to boot him. We'd just be saddling ourselves with $1.1M in dead cap space while replacing him with someone who isn't going to move the needle.

You can hate his play and hate his contract - I know I do - but the best spot for him is likely being left alone and forgotten on the 4th line wing to see if he can regroup without any heat or attention.

Leafs fans always fill the house when they come to Detroit. I've been to the last couple Leafs/Wings games in Detroit including the one where we won 1-0 and Zetterberg scored the OT winner and the first game last season when Abby had a hat trick and Larkin scored his first goal.

This doesnt surprise me that the arena had tons of blue on. I was told it is cheaper for them to come here and spend the night or take a bus then buy a ticket in TOR.

Oh absolutely, but now they'll (probably) be on the winning side more often. Which makes them exponentially louder and more obnoxious when you're going to a home game.

Winnipeg fans are crazy about traveling to Minnesota, too, because the tickets are easier to get I guess. That's a hell of a trek, though. About a 7 hour drive! Moral of the story, Canadians love hockey.

Some arena's won't sell tickets to fans of the other team. Maybe Ilitch should do that... but I doubt he will, he likes the $1 to much. If anything, he'll raise the Hot-n-Ready prices to $6 during Leafs games.

rough night for the defensive specialists....not much skill is required to play defence just effort and compete. unfortunately for the wings fan there is not enought skill on this team to carry this weak coach.

They will just buy them on Stubhub or somewhere else.

Even that game (was that last year or the year before?) was when the Wings were trending downwards. Do you think during the Wings' heyday they would have been able to get that many tickets?

It is embarrassing, especially considering we are supposed to be a hockey town.

Ranting? No, just disgusted with Kenny's loyalty system and constantly overpaying players who add very little to the team.

6.5 million matters because how do you expect the team to create cap space for this elite talent through trade or future development if we continue to overpay guys who would hit the waiver wire on any other team? If this team even considered adding a guy like Shattenkirk it would cost at least that much to sign him.

Not to mention the complete mess that we've gotten into with the higher cost contracts.

We're "Hockeytown" in name only. Pittsburgh and Chicago passed us up for the title here in the states a couple years ago.
