Sucks we couldn't sign Roberts. Really liked his game. Leads the AHL in points. This goes to show that guys need a cup of tea only if one game in the NHL to show you have some faith in them.

Why did he choose Tampas AHL team over ours? also go figure, we never have players lead the league in scoring on WBS to my knowledge.

Snoozefest so far. Pens not getting many looks offensively. PP looks especially bad.

Ouellet had a point shot that trickled through the goalie but went wide.

Svejk with some sick mitts to set up Glover for a goal.

And then the 2nd line scores about 2 minutes later.

DOC keeps taking penalties. Dude, stop it!

Providence crash the net with zero seconds left. Tokarski was upset and Sikura fought someone. Was about to start teeing off on him til the ref stepped in. Pens win.

Maybe he fell like he was being passed over. Tampa doesn't not have a deep prospect pool. He might have thought he would get a better shot there.

He also trained with Yanni Gourde

Because he's dealt with our management for 2 years and didn't like it?

If you hate working for your boss, you'll probably jump to go to a competitor even if it's likely they won't treat you any better. Robert probably figures he's got a better shot of getting into the NHL through any other club than the one that had him for 2 years and didn't think he's got what it takes for a promotion.

I'm sure the $95k signing bonus didn't hurt either.

He was offered the promotion though. They offered him an NHL contract, and the ELC thing mean it would have been identical financially iirc. Not a lot of reason to hate an org that used him as an AHL top 6 forward all season long either.

For whatever reason it didn’t strike him as a good deal. That’s okay, I think. It’s not like his numbers were insanely good last year.

Besides, it's not like he has to sign here if we give him the same or even better contract. Maybe he wants to play in Florida someday, maybe he hates Wilkes-Barre and has a thing for Syracuse? Who knows outside of the parties directly involved?

Nobody knows, but we can at least check theories against the known facts. Example - he signed to be in WBS twice, once after already playing there. Generally not a sign of hate.

Likewise, players who go from CHL free agent to NHL contract in two years generally don't have a lot of reason to hate the org that got them there and offered that chance themselves.

It's generally not puzzling that players want to go to Tampa given their record, location, and organisational depth. And it sucks it happened with a guy we had a good chance of signing and who is now the AHL's leading scorer.

And you forgot to mention probably the most important reason: no state taxes lol

Tampa also has a great recent history of developing unheralded prospects, including a number of notable French Canadians/Quebec natives (Gourde, Marchessault, Joseph, Killorn and to a lesser extent Paquette & Barre-Boulet). Also, Tampa GM is from Quebec. While it's impossible to know what caused him to choose Tampa, it doesn't seem unreasonable that he has some connections to some guys that have passed through the organization from Quebec that put in a plug for their development system and the opportunities that they had with the Lightning.
