He's going to wear #7 and seems to want a more offensive role partnered with Theodore (from what I gather on Twitter)

Theodore looks like a Norris candidate on the right side, so not sure if that's in the cards...

Now if Glass becomes a legit top 6 C next season, they have no weaknesses.

Seems a bit uncharacteristic of them to go into the season like this without another top 9 C. Feels like another move is coming, like making room for Haula.

That pairing would be sick, but the other two pairs would struggle a lot to move the puck up the ice. I think Vegas plays it smart and puts Pietrangelo with McNabb.

It will be interesting to see what Vegas does to fill out their roster.

Losing Stastny and Schmidt, while gaining Pietrangelo is probably a bit of a win, but I don’t think it’s big.

Right? Still a top 2-3 team in the West, but it's wild the amount of posters that think they'll win 70 games next year now.

Yeah, they’re going to be very good, but the Center ice position is a problem for them right now. That top defence pairing is damn special though.

Of goaltenders to play at least 4 games during that post-season, Binnington ranked 7th in G.A.A and 10th in Sv%.

He is not the reason St. Louis went on that run - and it certainly was not a fluke. He at times was a reason, yes. And he played great at times, too, like game 7 vs Boston.

But to say that he's the reason St. Louis went on that run is just wrong.
He IS the reason the blues made the playoffs though.

Team was in last place when he entered in january going 5-1-1 with a 1.57 gaa and .936sv% followed by february 10-1 with a 1.44 gaa and a .945 sv%.

He leveled off to more average to slightly above average play the rest of the year and playoffs but the blues were dead in the water and playoff chances seemed hopeless before that 15-2-1 tear he took them on.

Why are people so bitter over him going to Vegas? He made a decision he thinks is best for himself, why the hell would you care unless you're a Knights or Blues fan?

I'd bet it was Josi's AAV was the one target, and 30-40m or so in signing bonuses in years 3-6 was the other. That's what we've been hearing the past month or so.

Called it. Plus the guaranteed sb money the next 2 years and NMC on top of it. (just shy of 9m though)

Saying he should expect to get 8m was incredibly unrealistic.

It was never about the money. With hockey players at the top of the game, it's about what the money says about how you're respected / valued in the league and by the team.

That respect element is why AP is no longer a member of the Blues. He believed (and rightfully so) that he deserved a full NMC and substantial bonus money. Doug Armstrong doesn't do that, and while he indicated willingness to do some of it, it was never going to be a hard-stop, full NMC for all 7-8 years.

It's knowing that team and player had completely inflexible positions in this regard, that caused Armstrong to go out and get Faulk, which in turn caused even more feeling of disrespect by AP.
If it amounts to a power struggle between Pietrangelo and Armstrong, a more patient, humble and perseverent Pietrangelo could have still been in St. Louis long after Armstrong is gone.

Quite possible, but if Pietrangelo caves to signing a deal that doesn't include a full NMC, then it whomever replaces Armstrong will have free-will to trade him as he sees fit.

The NMC is the reason things never really got off the ground. AP wasn't going to sign a contract with any risk that he could wake up one morning traded or waived.

I'm glad Petro's half a day in Las Vegas sealed the deal. LOL.
Well, one and a half where he was checking out schools, where the players live(Summerlin), where they shop, etc.

Also said he watched Theo in the POs and thought he'd fit in DeBoer's system, that he can help Theo, told Theo how excited he is to play with him, etc. He might just be a Theodore fanboy lol.

That Karlsson contract is so bad this post should literally be considered trolling. Man that hurts the eyes to see.

What was the reason for the fluke season following that, when they finished 1st in the conference?

In a half season that was ended early due to a pandemic.

Without Binnington St Louis would have gone nowhere in the playoffs or won any cup.

I think Pietro is an idiot for leaving St. Louis over such a small amount of money.

You take away the extra year and add in the higher AAV and no state tax, and its six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Then you throw away the goodwill of being the captain of the only cup-winning team in the 50+ year history of the franchise, married to a home-town girl and raising a young family in the city where he was drafted as a teenager and it isn't even close. Money can't buy those things. They have value and he threw them all away.

Meh, I don't blame him.

Is 1 million a year really a small amount of money? That amounts to 7 million over the life of the contract. Sure hes already a multi millionaire but thats a lot of money to leave behind.

It be different if they didn't low ball him to begin with. but 7.7/year when guys like Trouba are making 8 is a slap in the face. As you mentioned he was the captain of the only cup winning team... (and is one of the top 10 players at his position) why did they offer him so little? Nevermind they didn't include a NMC. or any signing bonuses (which are pretty standard among big $$$ contracts these days).

STL won the Cup because their old D men suddenly played well, All of them played well. Including Bouw. It was a miracle. That and Maroon.

Some people just feel an incessant need to be miserable and will find any reason to do so.

If it amounts to a power struggle between Pietrangelo and Armstrong, a more patient, humble and perseverent Pietrangelo could have still been in St. Louis long after Armstrong is gone.
As things stand, Armstrong isn't going anywhere. He's pretty much got the keys to the franchise from Tom Stillman and carte blanche to run it as he sees fit.

Not that it couldn't change, or that it won't change at some point down the road, but for Pietrangelo to still be in St. Louis he was going to have to acquiesce to Armstrong's demands for what was in the contract. That appears to mean he would have had to settle for provisions that other players of his caliber didn't settle for when they stayed with their original clubs or even their then-current clubs. You can be loyal but still want to be treated fairly with respect to your peers in the industry; obviously there was a difference between the two sides on what "being treated fairly" meant, and probably even who the peer group of reference was. Either way, it meant giving Armstrong complete control over his future and having to trust he wouldn't get double-crossed down the road; Pietrangelo looked around and decided he had earned the right to control that, Armstrong disagreed. The rest is all filling on top of the crust.
