Speculation: "Vegas has at least 6 trades lined up.."

Vegas is going to be absolutely loaded with draft picks for the foreseeable future. I'm interested to see if they attempt to put together a team that can make some noise for the next couple of seasons or are perfectly content with stockpiling draft picks and prospects.

I think it will be the latter for the most part. I think management acknowledge that they could try and put a competitive team on the ice next season, with the following seasons most likely a step backwards, or they can build through prospects and hope that when they become competitive, they stay competitive for a while.

It's really crazy to me how good they are going to be in a short amount of time. They are going to be really good in about 3 years. REALLY good.

Draft picks are FAR from a guarantee. The chances that all their picks end up stats by the age of 21 (at the latest) is close to 0%. You're probably looking at 5+ years before you can use the term "really good" with them.

It might be 6 now, I'd assume that just covers protection deals, and not flipping the players they draft. Vegas will be open for business in the off-season, so that number can easily double.

Good luck to attract and sign top FAs like Kovalchuk, Radulov and Dadonov if they use the expansion draft to ignore all the good players and pick other teams rejects only to get some extra draft picks and prospects...

I feel like half the trades will be like the Isles rumoured one to give a first to take Grabovski. That trade makes little sense to me as an aside. However I think this is something teams are going to be doing.

Vegas will release their full roster at 10 am tomorrow, eastern time. They are allowed to do so whenever they want, but McPhee said he'd wait until almost right at the deadline.

But, I'm not sure about the trades. Those won't be announced until after. From what I hear, they are all going to be announced during the NHL awards show which starts at 8 pm eastern.

edit: but it's also said that a lot of trades will happen in the days after, and of course probably even more at the entry draft on friday.
edit#2: Oh I just checked and maybe that 10 am list won't be public at that time.

Wanted to order a pizza and watch the fun!

they either start as a very competitive team or they start with a ******** of prospect with a team that will team take 3-5 years to compete

with the quality of defensemen that are exposed, they can line up a top 10 defense next year, on top of the goaltending offered

My prediction:

1. deal with CBJ to lay off Korpisalo
2. deal with ANA to lay off Dmen
3. deal with NYI to lay off forwards
4. deal with Spencer Foo
5. deal to take Neal and trade away
6. deal to take Dumba and trade away
7. deal to take DeHaan and trade away
8. deal with ARI for a goalie.

One thing I don't quite understand is if Vegas signs a UFA, say Kris Russell for instance, that would be their pick from the Oilers but UFA signings aren't officially announced until July 1st and the negotiation periods generally start after the NHL draft so how would this work? We would know by tomorrow which UFA's they signed, no?

That's why they're fans. Lets not forget Vegas might overdraft defensemen in the expansion drat and use them as trade assets as well.

I thought I saw a tweet explicitly saying that McPhee or the org. had just that to them. No one from the fanbases I mentioned seemed even willing to entertain the scenario (barring perhaps an unrealistic or bizarre overpayment e.g. 10 1st round picks for the 1st OA or something like that), but you're right--we're all fans here.

What I find most interesting about Vegas and their assumed interest in prospects and picks is that Vegas itself doesn't seem like a place that's conducive to nurturing and developing young players. Don't get me wrong the facilities seem state of the art and there are some good professionals put in place on the hockey ops side, but I am speaking of the city itself.

Put a bunch of young single kids in a place where there's major partying every night, drugs, gambling, brothels, where it's practically been ingrained into society that this is the place where you go wild-- and you're just asking for developmental problems. It'll be interesting to track but I wouldn't be surprised if more kids than normal who make it onto the big club, end up having more off ice issues than normal.

At the very least, character is going to be a big factor in all expansion draft and entry draft selections, because you don't want Kostitsyn's, or Stoll's, or E. Kane's poisoning your system.

I hate snow, but he isn't trading a 1st round pick only to allow Vegas to take de Haan. He'd sooner just let Vegas take him and offer nothing. De Haan is off limits in whatever deal he's worked out with Vegas. Bet on that.

Istead count on Vegas getting #15 overall from the Isles and then taking one of Kulemin, Hickey, Cizikas, Clutterbuck, or Halak. After that the Isles will trade them Grabovski's contract for something small since Grabo cannot be taken in the expansion draft.

You can find parties, strip clubs and casinos in a lot of NHL cities.

It's a great time to be a fan with all of these speculations. This week will be fun for sure.
